I cannot seem to get the mic working. tried using skype, sound recorder and nothing gets recorded. doesn't seem to be installed, is this possible if this is a built-in mic? The mic is not muted, everything seems fine, but no sound can be heard when speaking into the mic!!!!!

Are you certain the Logitech webcam has a built-in mic?
To check if the mic works go to Start - All programs - Accessories - Entertainment - Sound Recorder and test record your voice and play back to check, also try it with the laptop's built-in mic (if it has one) and the Logitech mic.
If both mics work then you have a choice of which one you can use in Skype, most likely the best one would be the Logitech one.
You need to configure your audio settings in Skype. When you open Skype click on Tools - Options - Audio Settings and click on Select Microphone and select the microphone you are using and save the setting.

You need to go into the recorder options ant tell it the sound source to us is the USB Mic. on the webcam, or what ever the source of the Mic. is. There are several sources in Skype that allow changes to be made. Use the drop down menu for the selection and select the one you are using for the mic. Good Luck, RAC
Well...depending on what your doing you can set the audio to be recorded from the mic, if your using a chat program you need to start an integrated voice/video chat. if your recording video for a home movie, youll have to change the audio preferences in whatever program you are using to utilize that mic. anmy extra info on exactly what your using it for would be a great help :)
First, try pluging in an exteral mic to check the mic itself is not broke. Next Go to the device manager to check for driver problems (control panel, system, Hardware look for yellow ?'s) Check control panel, Sounds and Audio, audio, sound recording, volume. There are just too many ways to mess with the sound settings, and they often seem to just mute themselves! Good luck
yes, all seems perfect
