One of the best solution's is use a good quality soap powder after u clean machine, after u have checked ur filters and cleaned them put 1/2 gallon of bleach in tub put on hottest cycle and longest running time this will clean it after wards leave door open if no more smells that's it if it comes back repeat every month hope this helps u .... i do this in my machine
You can also use vinegar. Just pour some in with an empy load and let it run a normal cycle. Some people say use 1/4 cup of vinegar, but I use whatever seems like enough! Try it whenever it gets smelly. It could be done with your dishwasher also, but to really get rid of soap buildup, you'll probably want to get a dishwasher cleaning product.
The Sears repairman told me to use a whole bottle of "Washer Magic" (WalMart) in an empty load using the Sanitize cycle. Use this quarterly and then use "affresh" tablets monthly. I hope it helps.
I found that when I opened up the little filter basket under the tub, the smell was over-powering. One I cleaned this out, the smell was gone. Just be careful because the drain lines will dump out alot of water, so be prepared to catch this with towels.
Turn it off, unplug it. Remove filter and check if filter and/or filter and pump housing are clogged with something "smelly". When you're at it check the drain pipe for too.

I have the same problem. I found the inside of the rubber rim ito be full of mildew. I am concerned about health risks involved with breathing in the mildew oder 24/7.
I have a very very bad smell coming from the washer. It smells like a wet, dirty dog.
