Vibrates when it spins

Here are a few quick facts on washing machine vibration.
  1. All washing machines and dryer vibrate. Dryers usually have less vibration than washers because the load is only wet clothes (as opposed to a drum of water and clothes). Front loading washing machines cause high frequency vertical oscillation while top loading washers usually have horizontal oscillation.
  2. Almost all front loading washing machines are not recommended for use on standard joist-construction floors (most common floor type, compared to a concrete slab sub-floor). Manufactures like GE, LG, Maytag, Samsung, Whirlpool, Kenmore, Bosch and more, all recommend installing a pad like Silent Feet under the washing machine to absorb the vibration.
  3. The only alternative to using Silent Feet pads to prevent structural damage is costly upgrading of the sub-floor. This usually involves adding a second layer of plywood sub-floor and adding sister boards to the rafters that support the floor. But even this won't reduce the amount of vibration noise that you hear. Sub-floor upgrades can cost thousands of dollars.
  4. Vibration can also cause appliance "walking" (unwanted movement) usually during the spin cycle. Simply installing a pad designed to prevent walking can solve this problem and mean that you'll never have to reposition your washer after every load again. Both Original Silent Feet and Anti-Walk Silent Feet prevent walking, however for washers that move a lot or stacked units it is recommended that you install Anti-Walk Silent Feet for the best results.
You were not specific in either type or model. I hope the above information helps. Also, the size of the loads plays a great part in how a machine functions. have a nice day

The washer tub bearing may be defective, but that is the only thing that I can think of. Are you noticing this on all loads or just heavy items like bath towels and jeans? Are you redistributing the clothes before the final spin, try that. Also do not overload the washer, wash to medium loads instead of one full to the top load. Wastes water but saves on repairs.

My new Maytag Bravos HE top load MVWX500XW vibrates during spin, is this normal?

from the way you describe the issue it sounds normal, all washers vibrate at least a little or alot (depending on the balance or unbalance of the load) if it is just vibrating and not making a grinding or scraping noise it is fine, if its vibrating too much for your like, try to rebalance your load.

Have a Roper (Whirlpool) top load washer Model RAL 5144BWO, that vibrates excessively. I ran it without any clothes, and still vibrated excessively. I watched it go through the spin cycle with the lid...

Hi, Well it sounds like either one of the tension springs that hold the outer clear tub to the frame down below came off or broke, or that the basket or gearbox shaft is warped. One other thing to try is the back feet on those washers are spring loaded to take out some of the vibration, if those feet arent level it will make the washer shake. it is easy to reset those so they are level. Stand infront of the washer and grab the back of the unit and pull it towards you so that you raise the rear legs, then simply set it back down. To check the spring you will have to take the outer shell off and look at the springs that are at the bottom of the tub assembly holding the tub down on the frame. Good luck and I hope I was some help.

My Bosh washing machine has excessive vibration according the the level i put on the top of the washer it is level, but still seems to walk accross the floor on the final spin cycle.

it may be level but if the feet are not adjusted to be tight to the floor this will cause it to walk so try adjusting the feet then lock the locking nut I am sure you will find 2 that are not adjusted tight enough.

Whirpool Duet "walking"

Hi, most of the time this can be a simple as a overload that will dramatically shake this type of washer. due to its front load design, it is recommeded to load accordingly to specs. overloading this type of washer will induce walking/excessive vibration during the spin cycle.
