I'd love to do the same.... I bought this unit when it first came out about 2-3 years ago. I paid $1200 for it and can't really enjoy the damn thing because of the stupid remote functions only when it feels like it... I tried to use a universal remote on the player, but nothing... Here are the general steps to program a BN59-00850A remote to pair with a Samsung DVD player:
Turn on the DVD player and make sure it is set to the correct input on your TV.
Locate the "Code Search" button on your BN59-00850A remote, this button is usually located at the top of the remote. Press and hold the "Code Search" button until the indicator light comes on.
Press the "DVD" button on the remote and release the "Code Search" button. The indicator light will flash to indicate that the remote is in programming mode.
