I have the Toshiba 65hm167 DLP, It has a bunch of white spots on the screen and they increase in number daily. I have read of this problem on other T.V.'s but not this one. I have also read several different solutions but, have not read if they worked. What is the problem? I hear Light Engine and DLP chip?????

How to fix my 65" toshiba white pixel problem

Thats caused by the DLP chip. Unfortunately most Toshiba models will end up having to have both the DLP chip and the formatter board replaced at the same time to fix the issue where as other models only require replacing the DLP chip alone to fix the white dots issue

Install a dlp chip

I don't know if one is even available for this model but you usually are better (since those chips average 200) to replace the light engine completely---if a problem in the engine it can damage the display chip again in exact same way.

White spots, number is growing

Hi,

I am sorry you are having problems. Those symptoms indicate the digital light IC (chip) is failing. The DLP chip is part of the DMD board on the light engine, and is only sold with the light engine. A replacement light engine runs about $400 plus $250 for labor.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Yes, I have the same problem. A bunch of white dots, about the size of a pin head. They also increase daily

This problem is coming from your DMD board it looks like some of the micro mirrors are getting stuck in the on or off position you need to replace the light engine system the problem will only get worst with time like you have noticed

I have white specks on screen toshiba 65 in DLP

White dots on a DLP mean that some of the tiny mirrors on the DMD board have failed and are stuck in the on posisiton and always reflecting the white light from the lamp. The DMD on this model is not available sepratley so the complete light engine needs to be replaced. The part number for the light engine is 75006693.

White spots on screen and growing every day

If these spots are small, they are likely the visual effect of a failing DLP chip. When some of the tiny mirrored surfaces on the chip stop moving, this is the result. This is not something you can fix yourself. A Samsung authorized service center will charge $400-$500 to replace it for you.

Permanent white spot

can see it in certain lighting and even when the TV is off! It will appear lighter than the surrounding areas at times and can be annoying. I called Toshiba and had a service man come out and even though he acknowledged that this is common, Toshiba will not replace the screen.
