Open up printer cover. Search for button on printer with ink drop printed on it or near it. Press that button, and print head will move to position from where you can change ink cartridges. To get one cartridge out, pull a small lever on cartridge end and it will pop out. To put new cartridge in, just get it into position and click it in.
Please check if there is not some dirt, or something blocking the contacts from reading. Also the ink level is measured by optical sensor that can also be dirty.
Also make sure you use an Original Canon cartridge.
You can't reset the ink level on all Canon Pixma printers. You need to turn off the function on printer to show the ink level. On most printers this happen with push resume button and hold it for 5 seconds. The printer shows empty cartridges but it will printing.
Problem is resetting the IC chip that they install that calculates that your cartridge is empty, Refilling it doesn't work because the chip tells the printer that it'S empty. No way to reset it yet.
