Gestetner This is a big printer, coping machine with the brand name of Gestetner There are numbers in it that are 11638 and another set of letters that are 1791-6356. We got this machine at a school auction and know nothing about it and are trying to find someone who could send us a manual about it. Is there anyway you could help us? Thank you Diana Workman

The make is the brand name the model is usually 2 or 3 numbers that that are on label with the brand name .or . Letters that follow the brand name.

while printer is on, yank out power cord, wait 1 minute , and plug back in , printer will print now with no candy striping

This is a common error code for Ricoh copiers, Savin and Gestetner copiers that need service. Recently Ricoh has purchased Lanier and now is naming all their new machines Lanier instead of Gestetner, Savin and Ricoh. However, the copier service error codes have remained he same.
When you get this copier printer service code it means the fuser or fixing assembly (same part) has thermistor problem. The copier fuser's thermistors help regulate the temperature of the fuser assembly. The fuser assembly on all copiers including Canon, Kyocera, Ricoh, Sharp and other brands is the part that melts the toner onto the page.
Getting back to the repairing the copier on Ricoh, Savin, Lanier and Gestetner models that have the fuser or fixing code error. The majority of the time the fusers' thermistors (Middle and read) need to be replaced. Just cleaning them will not solve the copier repair service code.
It is usually, depending upon the machine, its a 1 to 2 hour copier repair job because the copier repair service technician will need to dissemble the fuser, insert the two new thermistors, re-assemble, reset the error code and test the copier machine repair. Also, ask the copier technicians to to do a copier cleaning maintenance while on site.

Look for a copier dealer or service center that is listed as repairing Ricoh, Savin or Gestetner. They are all the same machines. In other words your Gestetner copier is made by Ricoh and Ricoh Dealers are far more common and easy to find than Gestetner. If you need to know the exact model then just reply with your Gestetner Model number and I can tell you what the Ricoh equivalent number is.

There are many different companies that sell compatible toner, and the quality varies greatly. You should try getting your money back from the company you bought that toner from, and find a new supplier if you can't get it from Gestetner. Premier is a company that sells compatible toner for many different machines, and they usually get pretty good reviews.

Sounds to me that the paper tray is set incorrectly. There is a dial on the back of the machine that needs to be set correctly once the paper tray guides are adjusted accordingly -particularly when running 8 1/2 x 11" (letter) size paper. It can be set to run either lengthwise, or laterally (portrait) make sure the dial is set to the proper setting on ALL trays. If the tray is set for lateral, for example, and the paper is installed lengthwise, the scanner only utilizes 8 1/2" in length rather than the full 11". Frequent jamming is also a common problem when making multiple copies, because the paper is not where the machine "expects" it to be. Also check that the LCD display reads the proper size / orientation after adjustment.
