When I'm indoors I suppose the camnera works as well as it is designed to work but when outside, especially in bright sunlight, the screen goes blank. I've tried shading the screen with my body, insured that the sun was to my back but it makes no difference. When I turn the camera on it initializes and the mode I have set comes up and I click OK but as soon as I start to frame a picture the screen goes blank and the only way I can get it back on again is by turning it off then back on then the same thing happens again. It's frustrating. When overcast the camera seems to work fine. What in the world is going on?
The screen is only adjusting to the brightness of the surroundings through the lens. This camera is working properly but many of the Olympus cameras just are bad with sunlight. Let me know if you have further questions
thanks
Hi,
Does the screen actually go black or you just can;'t see it because of the bright light?
Try to manually make it so that it is set to outdoor settings. Or maybe try low brightness and no flash.
Nick, once it goes blank you have to turn it off?
If you cover the lence with your hand will it still have a white screen?
Nick, does it go black or blank?
Hmm, nick, have you tried to comunicate with olympus?
If you havent go here and you will find some email and phone numbers

It goes black. When it first comes on and displays the mode I can see it fine.
No, it stays black. If I move it I can hear the lens refocus but it's not comming through to the screen.
