In most cases you need to have your computer set obtain an IP address automaticly from your router.

The link below will help you check this.

How to check and change you computer IP address in Windows XP

How to check and change you computer IP address in Windows 7

If you do not have a router and are connecting your modem directly to your computer you may need to call you ISP to get your DNS info to enter in your network card setting.

How to find a IP address for my emachines laptop

go to start -- run and type in CMD
hit enter to open a black command prompt window

type in "ipconfig" without the quotes and hit enter. This will give you your IP address.

If you need the IP address from your provider that you are using out on the public internet, just go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ and it will tell you what your external public IP address is.

I have WG11v3, adapter and have all lights ready except. It tells me about the ip address is needed. How can I put that in. I provider is verizon and they tell me I will have to get that answer from...

Click on Start and then Control Panel. Select Network Connections. Right click on the local network adaptor you are setting the IP address for. Select properties. If you do not see Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) click the install select protocol and add then Internet Protocol TCP/IP and ok. Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and properties. If you do not know the IP Address select obtain IP address automatically and OK. Click OK to close and save Local Area Network Properties. See if this works otherwise you will need to find the IP Address for your modem.

I have a emachine laptop i cant get online everything else works tried everything keeps saying im connected but my ip address is wrong tried to manually fix it but it wont take wht do i do?

Networks can be a little complicated and very picky.
Much of it depends on how the network is set up. Many will allow you to use DHCP, which means you set the device to accept whatever IP configuration that the network assigns. Some require a set IP address, subnet make, gateway and DNS numbers.

You must know the IP address for the Gateway ( which is usually the main network connection device that connects the network to the internet) and DNS, which is often the same as the gateway, and the subnet ( which will often fill in when you tab from the IP address for the device), in order to manually fill in IP configuration on your laptop.
You need to speak to the person who set up your network so you can see how your device needs to be configured.

I hope you find this information helpful and informative. If you found it helpful, please leave postivie feedback for me.

Thank You,

Brian

I have cable internet through Time Warner and their modem connects directly to my Dell Dimension 8200 PC. I cannot connect to the internet and I am told it is because my computer will not read the ip...

you need to flush your dns
unplug modem (min of 10 sec)
turn off pc
restart in this order
modem (wait until most of the lights are solid) then pc
if your still having trouble

--------------------------XP Only -----------------------------------------------------------------
  1. Click the Start menu button on the Windows taskbar.

  2. Click Run... on this menu.

  3. If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'cmd' (without the quotes) in the text box that appears. A command prompt window appears on the screen.

  4. Type 'ipconfig' (without the quotes) to view the status of the computer's IP address(es).

  5. If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'ipconfig /release' to let go of the address.

  6. Type 'ipconfig /renew' to obtain a new IP address (whether or not the computer is holding a current address).
---------------------------------Vista or higher----------------------------------------------
1) Go to Start and click Run.
2) Run window will appear. Type cmd and click OK.
3) Command prompt
window will appear. Type ipconfig. You then will see the IP address and other network information of your network card
.

4) Type ipconfig /release to release the IP address.
5) Finally type ipconfig /renew to get new IP address.

then if this dont wont restart the computer.
if its still not working you will need a local tech to see if the ip address is hardcoded into the NIC

Wireless network connected on netbook but won't connect to internet pages. desktop computer and iTouch internet are working correctly.

your desktop and itouch are working that means the router is working.
Now on your note book check the IP address. It says connected to the network that means it should have IP address. Check the IP address, if it is a static IP address then set to using DHCP.

First connect that desktop to linksys with ethernet cable.
then set ip property to network adapter .
Set ip address ,subnet mask and gateway ip to ip property.
Set ip address as the ip of network like if router ip is 192.168.1.1 so set ip like 192.168.1.15
set subnet mask as same as your other computer.
Set default gatway ip as your router ip.

Need to reset IP address on Compaq Presario Prod# PJ527AA-ABA

Hi jdominey401,

In order to reset your IP address on a Windows Operating System, you will need to go to your control Panel, and click on your Network Connections. You will have an icon showing you Local Area Connection, which probably has a triangle with an ! in it. Meaning it's has a problem. Right Click on the Local Area Connection and go down to RESET. This will access your modem and give you a new IP address. If it all works fine, the triangle with the ! will disapear, and you should be back online.

Good Luck,

Mark

Installing the compaq home internet appliance

does the appliance have a dchp ip address option or auto ip address option. The IP address is used by the wireless network to identify each computer device in your house.
In your wireless router there will be a dhcp server that will lease out ip addresses to devices automatically.
the ip address would be 10.0.0.1 for your router or 192.168.0.1 usually most used ip addresses .
A subnet mask is usually 255.255.255.0 which is also needed.
Go to your desktop computer and go to command prompt . Google your version of windows and command prompt to work out how to do this.
then type in ipconfig
press enter key
note the default gateway address and the desktop's ip address
you may need to enter the default gateway ip address into the fridge also.
if the desktop was 10.0.0.2 subnet mask 255.255.255.0
then make the fridge if manually have to set it
10.0.0.254 subnet mask 255.255.255.0
or 192.168.0.254 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 if it is 192.168.0.2
the first three numbers are called the network address eg 192.168.0
10.0.0
the last number 1 - 254 are individual address part
192.168.0.1 {router uses this 1 usually } to 192.168.0.254

Router is connected to internet but other computers which show connection to the router cannot connect to the internet

Just because it is physically connected to the internet does not mean that it has a connection. The first thing you need to check is that it has an IP address. There should be a status page on the router that you can check.

Your ISP may require a specific machine name and password, or it may require the MAC address of your device, in order to get an IP address assigned to it. Call your ISP tech support for help with this.

Network Connection

First off, the 1394 connection is a firewire connetion. Firewire is a less popular and slower alternative to USB 2.0 connections. Disregard that in respect to your internet connection. Now in regards to your desktop internet connection.... -Go to the control panel, select network connections, then local area connection. -Right click and select properties -Under the general tab scroll down to Internet protocal (tcp/ip) Make sure the settings are set to automatically obtain an IP address. If they are and still are not working you can try to manually assign an IP address yourself. The laptops ip address might be something like 192.168.1.2 so whatever your laptop ip address is make the desktop 1 number higher in the last field (192.168.1.3 for example). Don't change any numbers other than the last field. You can find out the other information like subnet mask and default gateway by using the laptop. On the laptop go to the start menu, hit run. Then type in cmd, this will bring up a dos prompt. Then finally type IPCONFIG . Listed will be the laptops active internet connections and it's IP addresses. Copy over the subnet mask IP address and the default gateway address into the desktop and like in the previous step just manually assign the desktop a different IP address 1 number higher than the laptop. If the dns server's address isn't listed on the laptop a quick call to your dsl provider will solve that question.
