E1 means that your machine thinks the thread has broken.
There's nothing you can do to fix this: it has to go to an authorised Singer Service Centre for diagnosis and repair. Usually it's a faulty thread sensor.
I had the same issue and kept checking out everything. It ended up being the top thread was getting caught under the first feeder hook and the body of the machine. I put tape over the spot and haven't had any problems since. Good luck!
