Our Bosch WFVC5400 washer displayed an E:13 code. After opening the trap, we found 6 quarters which we thought were the culprit that initiated the code. We opened the door by pulling on the string, cleaned the trap, strainers, made sure supply hose is not kinked, turned water and power back on. We then tried to start a new cycle but no water enter the machine. Please help. We bought this washer new and it's only 6 months old.

Bosch E-13 error code is a drain timeout code. This means the pump has run a certian amount of time without fully draining itself.

This could be anything from a clogged drainline in your home to a clogged drainline in the machine, your pump is clogged, pump is burned up, no power to the pumpetc. Most of the time its either something jammed in the pump, or its burned up (from something being jammed in it).

If your model has a filter on the front of the machine, put down plenty of towels and slowly undo the filter. Water will come out. Check to see if its blocked or if the outlet hose is blocked.

2. Find a drill bit or small screwdriver that fits in the hole in the round door.
3. Insert the bit into the hole in the door. It will push in a tab, it doesn't take much force. Rotate the hole (clockwise) to 6'oclock and it should come free. (the edges are very sharp so be careful).
4. Once the door is out of the way you'll be greeted by a 3-4" plastic cap with wings so you can unscrew it by hand. ( you should also see a red ring with a string attached, if you pull this the door should unlatch, but getting the water out first is usually a good plan ) There is a small collector lip at the bottom of the cap, that is where you can hold the wet/dry vac to catch the water. Unscrew slowly so you don't get flooded, until it is unscrewed all the way out
5. Now pull out the trap and visually inspect the inside of the pump as well as the filter/trap. Hopefully you'll find the item/debris that initiated the error code.
6. After removing any debris or obstruction`s re-install the button trap/lint filter and plug the washer in to power or reset the breaker and give it a test.
7. Run a load and watch for leaks. Leave the pump access door off until you are sure you screwed the cap in tight and there are no leaks.

Ultimately you may have a faulty drain pump, but I would certainly start by performing the things I listed first.

E13 error in your Bosch WFMC washer is a drain error and is displayed when the drain time exceeds & the washer is unable to drain so the door won't open sometimes when this error is displayed. You will have to clean the drain trap in the bottom right hand corner. You can stick a straighten paper clip in the access panel located inside the front bottom panel through the whole and then turn the access panel counter clockwise to unscrew the plastic drain cap behind it. After everything is cleaned and the error returns then replacing the drain pump is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

According to Bosch this is what the error means ( as taken from my bosch service manual )

Er:04
Door actuation defective
Triac defective,
Door relay stuck
- replace control


However, this can also be initiated by a washer which did not drain or spin properly ( error 13 ) and then the door has been attempted to open.

I would suggest you try this before resigning to needing a new control...

What you may have is either a clogged pump, improper detergent being used, ( must use "HE"/lo-sudsing detergent ) hence suds not allowing a proper drain cycle, or wires loose at the pump...the later being the least likely.

You haven`t mentioned if you`ve checked the pump...this is most likely the reason the door won`t open. It`s by design.

Anyway, here`s the most likely way to remedy a E13 code.

Timed out on drain cycle, basically you either have an outlet blockage or something is trapped in the pump, you can check the pump by opening the bottom right flap on the front panel,manually emptying the w/m and checking the pump filter for coins etc. Also, check the outlet isn't blocked.

Hi, i had an E-13 error code on my Bosch 500 series washer. The drain pump impeller was plugged. Access the drain impeller at the bottom front right corner. Just put a pen in the hole and turn the cover. Then you need to manually drain the washer. I used a shop vac by just turning the cap until it started to leak and vacuum the water as it comes out, this takes quite a while. When you get it drained you can take the cap completely off. When I did I found a wipe in the impeller. I took it out and put it back together and the washer worked just as before.
