How do I turn off the closed captioning?

Page 49 of User Guide:
SETTINGS ? OPTION ? Caption View captions when the TV station provides captioned programing. Program captions work only on digital/analog broadcasts or external input. Change Caption to On or OFF. If On, then select caption settings. • Mode CC 1-4 (Closed Captioning) / Text 1-4 : Displays the audio portion of a TV program as text on the TV screen. CC1 is the most common mode in use. Field 1 data channels: two Captions (CC1, CC2), two Text (T1, T2). Field 2 data channels: two Captions (CC3, CC4), two Text (T3, T4). Service 1-6 : This is only available for the digital broadcasting system.

Can I turn the caption mode off with the remote?

CC (Closed Caption)

To select the options in the CC sub-menu, press the MENU button or the #

button. A new menu will be displayed showing the following CC settings:

CC

The CC feature is available when watching regular analog (NTSC) TV.

Select from CC1, CC2, CC3 or CC4. Closed Caption for regular TV is

usually CC1 or CC2.

Digital CC Style

The Digital CC Style feature is available when watching digital TV.

Select either As Broadcaster or Custom. If Custom is selected then
you can customize the way Closed Caption is displayed.

How to remove black square from the screen without the original remote?

Usually need the original remote--if you can with buttons (not likely on JVC) try to set it to CC4 which is almost never active and should remove the text box that you are seeing.

Note: if using a cable or sat box look there also as most have the text feature also.

How do you remove the subtitles?

Subtitles are controlled by 'CC". Closed Captioning. Look for a CC button on the remote or captioning.
Captioning usually is in the menu as well under 'settings'.
Closed captioning has several settings. OFF turns all captioning off. CC1, CC2, CC3 & CC4 are captioning styles. Text is for text channels.

Press the > button. A separate menu will appear with the following CC

Once the adjustments are completed press the LAST button repeatedly to exit
the OSD completely.

Have a black-out square appear on some channels especially FOX

Subtitle

Analog:
1. go to setup menu
2. press the DOWN menu button to highlight the analog cc section
3. press the right button to select off/cc1/cc2/cc3/cc4 (keep in mind closed caption for reg tv is usually cc1 or cc2)

digital:
1. Go to that handy setup menu again
2. Press the down button to highlight the digital cc selection
3. press the right button to select OFF or SERVICE 1 thru SERVICE 6 (any of these should work)

I wonder how to set up closed captioned with this phiplips remote control [email protected]

Sometimes its in the menu of the tv . Look thru the menu you should find it . If your remote has the button on it keep pressing it should give you different cc1 cc2 cc3 cc4 - text1 text2 text3 text4. text mode is not what you want it will block out the picture except for the edges .To turn off simply press the cc button until the off is displayed . Go thru menu pages one at a time until you find CC / Text...
Selections might be CC1 , CC2 , CC3 , Text 1 , etc. You may
have to try each CC for your signal source......T.
