5 blinks is error code for short on 140 volt line inside the set; it usually means the Horz output transistor is shorted. If you have a ohm meter (used for checking fuses etc) there is a simple test to see if this is the problem. Also associated with this is a bad capacitor near it (Location for the Transistor is C509 and the transistor should be location Q551 How do i test them? What should the readings be?

SOURCE: resistors and capacitors

Resistors are usually cylindrical, depressed in the middle and have three coloured rings (sometimes 4) around it to show the resistance value (but they do come in other shapes as well). The leads are generally on the base, one on each end. They are usually placed length-wise on the board. Here is a sample pic:

Capacitors, on the other had, are usually cylindrical all the way through and are encircled by a plastic sheath. Sometimes they look like small rectangualr compressed boxes. The leads are usually both at the base end on one end only. The top or cap is usually visible and point upwards from the board. They have their values usually printed on the plastic sheathing.

Here is a LINK that will give you more info, if you wish.

Hope that helps, and dont forget a Fixya rating!

SOURCE: Panasonic pt-47wx53 C509

As you look from the back of the set (with the cover off) it is on the far right large board, C509 is the location number--it will be printed on top of the board under the cap.

It is about 2 o'clock near a large plug--on right side of right board--the one with the large gray transformer with a large red wire--part is forward of that transformer and red looking in color--two leads---it will have the C509 printed on top of the board under it.

This is a common failure part is this set--some will have a physical crack in the red part and others will look perfect-----value with a cap checker is .47 UF----200v is the working voltage --as long as you replace it with a cap of at least 200 volts of the same value--it will be fine--

There are two ways to get at it--pull the large board it is on OUT--I do not recommend this----or pull the whole light box out---very easy and safe---if you locate the cap and want to know how to pull the light box out let me know--

If this has helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

Panasonic pt-47wx42f does not comes on, led blinks one time

Actually it has no 1 blink error code.(no error found).

3 blinks is short protection and means convergence issue or short.

5 blinks is short on 140 volt line--shorted sweep transistor and or c 509 bad.

This set has a Light box--easy to remove entire chassis and guts to troubleshoot outside of cabinet.

If need to know how to do that let me know--you will need to know how to use a volt/ohm meter and what and where to check things--3 blinks or 5 blinks?

I hope you can help me when trying to turn on my TV the red power light flashes 5 times and then goes off.

5 blinks in this model is a short on the 140 volt line coming out of the main power supply.

Likely causes are Horizontal Output Transistor or something around it is shorted.

It would require someone with a schematic and a meter to at least test for a short in that area to ground.

This model does have everything inside in a "light box" which is removable and the set can be operated with the remote with the box removed.

Unless you have the meter/schematic this may not be a do it yourself repair.

This model was prone to a capacitor in the same area failing and sometimes it takes the output transistor with it.

Kind of like testing for a problem in a car where something is draining the battery---some basic tests have to be performed and things tested.

Let me know if you are able and if you have ANY questions.

Panasonic tv pt47wx53g wont turn on- red power light on front blinks 5 times over and over

5 is short protection and usually means a short on the 140 dc line inside the set.

The most common cause is the Horz output transistor is shorted ground.

If you have some skills and have a multimeter I can tell you how to work on this problem.

Pt-53tw53g 5 blinks set won't come on how to fix

5 blinks is a short on the 140 volt line inside the set; most likely is the Horz. sweep transistor is shorted and possible also is a cap in same area.

If you have a meter to measure resistance with the set unplugged I can tell you how to confirm this.

Before you rate this information let me know if you have a meter and such.

The power light on my panasonic PT-53TW53 blinks 5 times in intervals. The TV set does not turn "on". Could you advise what this means ? Thank you for your help.

5 BLINKS means a short on the 140 volt line inside the set.

Usually this means the horizontal output transistor is shorted.

I can if you are able how to test for this and what to look for that may have caused this.

I am in California and online right now.

PT-53WX53 5 flashing led code

Five is short on one hundred forty volt line inside the set; Horizontal output transistor may be shorted or something near it.

Set detects the line is being held down because of a short and thus the five blink code.

Let me know if I can assist you.

My Panosonic TV Model# PT-47WX42F will not turn on. It clicks like it wants to turn on but does not. The power light is flashing 5 times

5 blinks is error code for short on 140 volt line inside the set; it usually means the Horz output transistor is shorted. If you have a ohm meter (used for checking fuses etc) there is a simple test to see if this is the problem.

Also associated with this is a bad capacitor near it (Location for the Transistor is C509 and the transistor should be location Q551)

Location numbers are printed on top of board near part; both parts are on (as seen from back) far right board near the large black part with big red wire coming out of the top.

Transistor is just to the left of it and cap forward about 3 inches.

If this information told you something you did not know rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

Screen remains black when you power it on and the power light flashes 5 times

5 blinks is short protection on the 140 volt DC line inside the set.

Most likely the horizontal output transistor is shorted and a capacitor near it bad.

The transistor is location Q551 and mounted on a large flat piece of metal; the capacitor that fails is C509----it is a .47 mfd @ 200 volts dc.

Let me know if you have questions--

PT-47WX53 power light blinks five times

Five blinks means short on the 140 volt line inside the set. How much skill do you have? You will need a Ohm meter----to check for a short.

Clearly I do not know what skill or expertise you have---You tell me and I will tell you depending on your answer where to and how to check for a short---The 140 volt line feeds the Horizontal output circuit.

Most likely you have a short to ground there.

let me know and I will try to assist you.
