Battery will not hold a charge for more than 20 minutes when fully charged

First of all take your battery to a place that sells batteries and have it checked. Sounds like your battery is only partially charging but the charger will show fully charged as it won't charge any more. Battery could be bad.

First Time Charging

FIRST, YOU MAKE SURE THE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED.. A GOOD BATTERY WILL GO FOR 12 HOURS EVEN IF THE ALTERNATOR IS NOT WORKING.. SECOND YOU TURN THE CAR ON.. ONCE THE CAR IS ON. YOU DISCONECT THE BATTERY,, IF THE ALTERNATOR IS GOOD , THE CAR SHOULD REMAIN ON WITHOUT A BATTERY.. IF IT SHUTS DOWN , YOU HAVE A BAD ALTERNATOR OR THE WIRING IS WRONG ONE OF THE TWO.. SHORTS ON YOUR WIRING CAN CAUSE THE BATTERY TO LOOSE POWER.. BUT NOT THAT FAST. BECAUSE IF THE SHORT WAS TO SERIOUS.. YOUR WIRING WOULD BE BURNED.. COMPLETELY..
IF THE ALTERNATOR IS OKAY,, REPLACE YOUR BATTERY,, MOST OF THE TIME BATTERIES GO BAD EASY WITH ANY LITTLE PROBLEM THE CELLS BURNOUT AND THEY DONT HOLD A CHARGE EVEN IF FULLY CHARGED THEY WILL LOOSE POWER IMMEDIATELY .. I THINK THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM.. SINCE IT ONLY LASTED LIKE 20 MINUTES.

The very first time you charge your battery YOU MUST CHARGE IT FULLY!!! If you didn't, that is probably the problem.

Also, even if you charge the player for just a couple of minutes it will APPEAR to have a fully charged battery when it actually doesn't.

Most portable media devices require at least 20 minutes to an hour to fully charge whether the screen shows that it is fully charged or not.

in this phone when the battery is fully charged the running battery indicators stop at full position. U must charge every phones battery a maximum of 2 hours b'coz charging more than it reduces battery life and if the battery is not fully charged in 2 hours u must charge it after 20 minutes again

how old is the battery? if it's more than 2 or 3 years old, it may not hold a charge. swap a known good battery and see if it works.
