Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

Dryer won't dry clothes in one cycle

Make sure a heating cycle is selected. Air and Fluff cycles do not use heat.

Make sure that both phases of 120 volt power are energized (total of 240 volts between the 2 phases).

Most likely the heating element is damaged, which usually means there is no heat at all. A dryer with 2 heating elements will have some heat, but not have enough, when 1 heating element stops working. A dryer with 1 heating element can partially fail and have partial heat, too.

Electric dryer..have heat on auto heat cycle, but no heat on timed cycle why?

If you have normal heat on Auto cycle, I have seen a few times that these new dryers channel the heat circuit separately through the timer for auto and timed cycle's. This isn't normal but you have a bad timer. But for any other readers this isn't a common problem generally the timer use's the same heat contact for auto and timed cycles, this is the exception.

Motor working but no hot air

Without a model number.... It is difficult for me to give you an exact solution. Some simple things to check first.
1. Shut off the dryer CB by pushing it hard to OFF and then back to on. Occasionally only one breaker will trip for mysterious reasons.
2. If the dryer has a pig tail cord... remove the plug from the outlet recepticle and inspect the pins for any signs of heat. Also inspect the terminal block on the dryer side of the cord. A loose connection on the terminal block can cause havoc with a dryer. The terminals heat up.. wires burn.. etc.
3. Then we get into:
a. cycle thermostats... Location unknown without a model number
b. motor switch
c. high limit thermostat or thermistor
d. termp control
e. heating element
f. timer or control PCB

At this time I would start looking at the thermostats, heating element or the power source.
Do the CB reset first.....

If you do the first few steps above and still have the problem respond with a model number and I wil help you.

I have a kenmore elite drier and i need to know how to change the heat eliment.

it would depend on the year of the dryer.. most of the elite models.. the element is at the bottom of the dryer. remove lower pane. and it wil be there.. be sure to unplug the dryer first.. the wires down there carry 240v.
it it removed rater easely, unplug all wires, and remove the screw holding the assembly in.. (it wil b eat the front underneath the element.) slde it out.. and voila

Gas dryer heats for couple minutes then goes cold

sounds like gas valve is not opening. your ignitor has to pull 3.2 to 3.6 amps to open gas valve. check amps
