Question about Tomtom GO 720 GPS Receiver

TomTom Go720 shuts off spontaneously

The TomTom will on occasion (and it's happening more frequently) shut off spontaneously. This happens even when the power cord is plugged in and the green light is on. It didn't use to do this at all. What is the problem?

    I couldn't get it to power up after I used the TomTom 720 through my computer. It didn't matter how long I held the power switch down. I pressed the reset button and then was able to power up the unit using the power button.

The TomTom720 is an unreliable device. I had one for about nine months. I had it replaced twice and finally gave up. TomTom, after much prodding, finally issued a refund. I now have a Dash Express.

Phone keeps shutting down spontaneously
There are two thing you can try:

1. Shut it down, remove the battery and replace it again.

2. Back up all your data and restore it to factory settings.

It is possible an app is make it hang, that's why the factory reset might work.

I have a go720 and it shuts off every 20 minuts it gives a warning first and if you see it you can cancle the shutdown. any sugestions on how to stop this.
If your device is on a USB DOCK and Computer it will shut down within 20minutes so it will give your tomtom optimal charge while on computer.

If your device is doing the same but on the USB car charger, there is a problem with the USB cable, its recognizing it as connection to a computer.

Best thing to do is try another car charger and see if that works.
Also make sure you don't use the home dock in the car.

Computre spontaneously restarts (usually on CD tray closing)
that is blue screen of death due missinstallation of hardware or software or any changes might took place. try installing a fresh operating system and hope it should work

Hi Guys,

This is a problem with the application v8.300
if you are using a map v8.XX or higher you will need to wait for the next appilcation update which should fix this.
if you are using a map vv7.XX or lower, you can remove the 8.300 application from your device and download v7.481 by updating your tomtom again, this will revert your application to an earlier version which you can use until the next application is released.

Lenovo 3000 C200 shuts off spontaneously
Others have reported that a battery going south (even one that still holds a charge) can cause some heat sensor to go into the red zone and shut the machine down. You can test this by pulling your battery and running your v100 exclusively on A/C--does this resolve the problem?

I discovered on my v100 that running the latest version of AVG (8.5) causes my hard drive to warm up enough to set off a heat sensor, shutting the machine down. I have to run the virus scan at the "slow" setting to avoid this problem.

TomTom has difficulties locating satellites.
Download the latest software tomtom home and do a gpsquickfix. THis will solve the problem and tell the unit where the satellites are for the next 7 days. May need to do gpsquickfix often.
