> orange steady battery light

It will turn GREEN when the battery is fully-charged.
Is there a problem with the battery not accepting a charge?
Remove the battery, to see if the computer will start without it.

> power button lights shift key and 2 function lights

Do these 2 lights just "blink" once, and then go out?

Does a "power" button stay lit?

I have a Toshiba satellite L655 - SW5096. went to turn it on but will not start. No fan, no screen. Only the power light indicator and a steady orange light . The orange light goes off if I remove the...

The orange light shows the battery is charging. It will turn green when the battery is fully charged. The white light shows there is power entering the computer.
The usual problem with a computer when there is no response to pressing the power button is that the motherboard has failed requiring the replacement of the motherboard.
If the computer is still under warranty there should be a free motherboard replacement, if not, and you are able to do the replacement, you can find motherboards for sale on various websites. Be aware that motherboard replacement for laptops can be expensive if done by computer repair shops.

I have a toshiba satillite pro l300. when i plug into mains only the orange light comes on and nothing else.

Try removing the battery and using the power cord to turn on the system. Usually an orange light means a battery problem.

What do the various led light colors mean? I have

The LEDs each indicate something is conected or normal. There is one for hard drive activity, power, battery, and wireless. Blue is good. Orange is bad. First take the charger to a shop to have it checked. If bad replace it. If good the the problem is either battery or the connector on laptop. Since the battery is new it sounds like the connector to me.

Wont turn on

Hi,

you have one of 3 things wrong here.

1:) the battery is dead, and needs to be replaced ( suggest e-bay china seller for cheapest )
2:) the AC adaptor or dc socket on the motherboard is Faulty.
3:) motherboard fault, regarding charging circuit board.

Go for the most cost effective option First. New Battery. Then AC Adaptor. Finally would be motherboard replacement.
