Good day, Remove the 2 screws on the bottom of the front panel. Pull forward and down to remove being careful with the wires from the door switch. You will see what has to be removed to slide the belt over the drum. The belt is installed upside down. That is, the smooth side down. Reinstall components to hold the drum in place. Go to the rear and remove the access panel on the bottom right to attach the belt to the idler. Installing the belt to the idler and motor pulley can be confusing, but Maytag supplies a picture on the bag how to. Be patient. Once on, slowly rotate the drum to allow the belt to center (important) and finish putting the front panel on.
lift the hood by pushing in clip on either side. remove two screw at top inside to remove front. unplug first. thats as far as we go there. remove belt out of dryer. take new belt and put on drum groove side down, get it uniform around drum. putting belt on pulley might be easier to do from behind for you. two screws to remove small access panel.take belt under pulley and over and around motor pulley. turn drum slowiy to make sure belt is not twisted. this belt can only go on a couple ways and one is obviously wrong. good luck.
Sounds like the drum roller supports are warn out. Unplug the dryer. Remove the two screws on the lower front panel and tilt the bottom of the front panel out and remove the front panel. Mark and remove the wires going to the door switch. Set the front panel aside. Remove the four screws holding the drum shroud and lift up and out. Set to one side leaving the wires attached. Go to the rear of the dryer and remove the small access panel, Remember how the drum belt is attached to the tension spring loaded pulley and motor pulley. Remove the belt from this assembly and go to the front of the dryer and remove the drum. The drum rollers are located on the rear bulk head of the dryer. Check to make sure that they spin ok or if they are warn out. Replace both rollers. Check the glides on the front shroud. These are teflon glides that the main drum ride on. IF warn, replace glides. Reassemble the dryer in the opposite way in which it was disassembled.
I hope this is of some help.
if not able to remove rear panel, you will need to start, like most models, take top cover off and hinge back to wall then remove frt cover including door as a whole assy. lift up drum put new belt on drum ( and position in same area as old belt,it will have marks on drum from where original belt was on drum) then put rest of belt over mtr pulley and then idler pulley, turn drum by hand to align belts and put it back together in reverse order
you cant take back cover off, you remove front cover and then access the top cover then you can replace the belt, there is an access panel on the rear you may need to remove to put belt on motor and idler pulleys
Sounds more like the dryer drum seal is deteriorating.
If the dryer tumbles the belt is intact.
To access the belt.
Open the door.
Remove 4 screws on right and left side of the door opening.
Raise the door on the hinge side and remove it.
Pull the front panel forward and remove it.
From there you can see what to do next.
I could not find the moder number in any maytag list, all I can do is posting general guidelines, like this one here: online guide Clik here. Generally to remove a belt in an electric maytag dryer you unscrew thescrews at the base of the front side of of the machine to remove thefront panel. Then the topc omes up. Thenyou remove the rear access panel and remove the tension on the belt. Getthe drum out, clean the dryer, eventually oil wheels and rollers, and re install the drum ensuring the belt ison right side and not twisted.
The instructions above are perfect for most Maytag Dryers, but the Neptune MDE4000AYW is built differently from most. To open it, undo the two screws that run through the door hinges, and remove the door, then undo the two other screws that are on the opposite side of the doorway. With these four screws out, you can lift the front panel UP and out. Make sure you unplug the dryer first :-)
