Never ever go thru puddles-cause u dont kno how deep it is-and can ruin an engine--do not try startin it till u kno theres no water in the engine-u can bend a rod-liquids dont compress--chec dip stic and then take a plug out to spot water in cylinder-take ur time--if these are ok then the electric system is soaked and you need to dry out

Hi, it sounds like you have a problem with your starter not kicking in just check the starter first you may have shorted it with the water.

Sounds like you have water in some of your distributuin boxes. Remove the covers and blow them out with compressed air.

Car won't start and starter is only making clunking noise

You can take out the spark plugs, keep track of your spark plug wire order, try to crank it over see if the engine turns over.

Check voltage on your new battery, some need to charge when new.

check for corrosion on the battery and starter cables.

Car wont turn over after i went through a flood

Yes but that's an inertia switch that shuts down the fuel pump if your in an accident it's possible but I don't this so you must remember which side you hit the puddle with R/L you could've shorted out the ignition module the coil pack or the computer check for spark ground out a spark plug wire to the engine and see if you get spark wear rubber gloves because if there is spark it's 40,000 volts and you'll look like harpo marx after check the coil for incoming voltage first if there is check for it coming out with the test I just described if no spark you hit the lottery replace the coil if no voltage is coming into the coil from the module and computer side check the module for + voltage in if so then check the wires going to the coil if none the module shorted out if no voltage is coming into the module then your computer is gone but I hope not I think it's your coil but you must check all good luck Stephen

My Mazda 929 went through a water puddle and now it wont start

I agree with "emissionwiz". What probably happened was you hydrostatic-ally locked your engine. What happens is when you went through that puddle water got sucked into the intake and into the engine. Water being a liquid cannot be compressed and stalled the engine and most likely bent some internal components. If you can hear the starter click but the engine won't turn over you've got a 99% chance its a ruined engine. If you don't want to believe that try turning the engine over by hand (socket on crankshaft), you should be able to turn it, if not it's done for. Good luck and sorry about the misfortune but next time go very slow through puddles.
