The typewriter will print the incorrect letter, or the face of the hammer if it does not spin properly to the correct position. 1. Turn the machine offf for 15 seconds and turn ON, or Depress MODE RESET(the Q key). This will rehome the Daisywheel.I If it prints correctly for awhile then looses its' position, check for ribbon or correction tape interference with Daisywheel movement. If it does not print correctly as soon as you start typing, remove the Daisywheel and inspect the spokes to see if any are bent. Reinstall the Daisywheel and power ON. If the Daisywheel has a bent spoke or two, you can try to straighten them, howvever the cause of bent spokes is a concern. While typing, carefully watch the print hammer movement. It should always return to the same position and not move towards the paper until a letter is pressed. If it does not come to rest properly, the hammer is not in proper timing and may enter the Daisywheel while it is spinning to the character, thus causing damage to the Daisywheel or causing it to lose homing. .The hammer cams would require adjustment ore replacement. If bent spokes is a persistent problem, make sure to get the hammer problem repaired before buying a new daisywhel.

Xp will not start. I get some funny characters

If this virus has made it this far to stop you from getting to your desktop you will then need to reload your system. There are other ways of getting around this but would be very pricey. The only reason you would want to take this route is if you have data on your computer that is not backed up and you can not afford to lose it.

My laptop has trouble turning on straight away and sometimes it stops working when I am using it - the screen gets a funny looking design (?) on it.

try to do a disk check and scan your computer for viruses. Your system might have corrupted files in which it displays funny characters.

Crazy characters start to print when printing from pdf doc or certain websites

Hi,

I understand that the printer is printing garbage when you are trying to print from internet.

Please follow the below given instructions to resolve the issue.

This issue can occur if the data send from the application from which you are printing, is using the PC-8 character set. This will produce a smiley face or garbage charters each time an unsupported escape code is sent by application. To know the character set, please contact the manufacturer of the application.
Also, you can follow these steps to disable the power managment in the comoputer.
1. Right-click My Computer, choose properties
2. Click Hardware tab, click Device Manager button.
3. Click the + next to Universal Serial Bus Controller.
4. Right-click USB Root Hub, choose properties.
5. Click Power Management tab.
5. Uncheck the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device
to save power.
6. Click Ok.

Missing characters, missing print barcode lines

Hi, It's been a while since I worked on these, so I'll go out on a limb (as far as my rating goes) and say that the few times I've seen that happen usually results from a bad network card. Now you may not be using a network card, so if your not then I'm not really sure what would cause that to happen on the printer side. The environments that I've seen that happen in are with an AS400 and the network card just gave out. You most likely tried this, but you might want to make sure that the computer isn't using one driver for both printers. Good luck.
