Two possibilities- corrupted firmware and or a bad hand controller cable. Re-load the firmware; if that does not do it then get a new hand controller cable. Beyond that it will be bad electronics inside the scope and it will need to be sent back to Meade for repair.
About the only thing you can do is buy another hand controller-- contact Meade for a new one.
I am assuming the hand controller cable cannot be replaced check it anyway and see if you can get someone to replace the plastic plug that goes into the telescope on the cable. Sometime these go bad. Any "network" cable guy should be about to replace the end.
This is sometimes caused by a bad hand controller cable and or corrupted firmware in the hand controller.
Get a new cable first and try it-- if this does does work then RESET the hand controller and reload the firmware using the proper computer cable and Autostar Updater Version 5.9 available here:
The first thing I would do is get another new hand controller cable. These can be ordered from Meade, or from a local dealer, or from www.scopestuff.com.
If a new cable does not help-- I would locate another Hand controller just to test if the controller has gone bad.
You can also try reinstalling the firmware into the hand controller, using the Meade version 5.9 updater software. You will need the proper computer cable between the computer and the hand controller to update the firmware.
First thing to check or replace is the hand controller cable.
Does the red light come on -- on the control panel. If yes the scope is receiving power but it's not going to the hand controller. I have had two Meade cables fail. A longer one is available on
However these scopes do have an issue with blowing out the capacitors on the power circuit board. To repair the scope must be returned to Meade, or you need to find a local electronic repair technician and be willing to remove the board yourself and take it to them.
Reset the hand controller, calibrate motors, train drives, calibrate sensors.
Make sure you have either fresh batteries, or better a seperate 12 volt power pack. The above will eleiminate everything except an actual BROKEN electronic part (such as a bad gps board).
If it still will not align using the gps, time to send it back to Meade for repairs. Make sure you have the latest firmware in the hand controller which is 43Eg. You can download the firmware using the UPDATER free software here: http://www.meade.com/support/downloads.html
