Ok i put a new system update on my ps3 and when it was done it ask me to sign in to playstation network so i tryed then i notice that my passward wasint there so i tryed every passward that i new and it dident let me in so i deleted my account and made a new one and tryed to sign in to playstation and it sead error (80023017) and i tryed to reset my systom to default setting and start over and try to sign up for playstation network and it sead an error occurred (80023017) i need help!!!!

You should be able to connect to the PSN network. But first you must download the new PS3 Software Update 3.61 or something like that. If you try to sign on it well tell you to update. Then once updated you can try to sign on again but you are going to have to reset your password. To do that, it will send you an email to change it. You will have to go to the PSN website to change it, but shouldnt take more than 5 minutes. Once you're done, go ahead and sign on.

This is happening right now because Sony is doing routine maintenance on their servers. Most of the time it is scheduled, but not always. Try again in an hour or two, or tonight.

Ok you need to go to playstations website and find a update for your dashboard and put it on a memory stick or sd card if you have a older ps3. You have to download it onto the memory stick just like playstation says then you put the memory stick in the ps3 and it should start updating from the memory stick. I've fixed several ps3s with the same problem. Your hard drive probably didnt download the update all the way so its sticking when you turn it on and restarting trying to do the same process over and over again stopping in the same spot.

dont try changing any settings as the problem is their end not yours

their are loads of people asking the same question in the last hour so you are not the only one, you could try going to the sony ps3 web site and check on their for any down time,

i just found out the network is down for 12 hours some lucky people may sign in but will soon be cut off its down till 23:30pm GMT time as im in UK time here is now 19:28 so their is another 4 hours left of down time

You can try the steps below. Its from PlayStation Forum:

1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

The current Recovery Menu supports:
• Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System.
• Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
• Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3.
• Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.
• System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System

If the above steps still does not solve the problem, then I think will have to update your Ps3.

Update your PS3 (in the settings menu the 1st option).

Go on the internet browser on the PS3 then go on the menu press triangle then on one of them there are delete cookies and the delete the others as
well as cookies.

You could also try this as well: put the PS3 on then press the eject button (with no disc in) then hold it and switch the PS3 off at the back with your finger on the eject button still holding it, then put it back on and the fan test should be working this may cool it down. It might be over heating.

But if your problem is not still solved, then maybe you should call sony for further assistance.

Maria the whole ps3 network is done have been on the phone to sony, and they say its a worldwide prob only the fat ps3's are effected sony are working on a fix and are updating via twitter its just a waiting game now.

Try resetting the internet options on the that account.

As is with all the new console systems, PS3's are actually having a major software problem and have stated that all PS3's where going to stop working last night. It might be a good idea to try and get your PS3 to software update or trade it in for a new one.

then you have to update the ps3's firmware.
Use a computer and go here and click the bar that says "download now".
when you are done downloading, save the file on a flash drive (also called thumb/USB drive), compact flash, SD card or memory stick. it must be at least have 140MB free space.
On the storage, copy the file you downloaded in the \PS3\Update folder.
Insert the media in the ps3 via usb or card reader.
On the Ps3, under "Settings", go to "System Update".
select "Update via storage media".
click ok to start the upate. Follow the directions.

After its done, now try to change your network settings.
