Clicking noise Our machine is making a loud clicking noise and won't feed paper. We tried changing the ink cartridge but it did the same thing. The only way to get it to stop is to open the front cover or just turn the machine off. Thank you.

The clicking noise is the gear fro the paper feeding roller. seems that the gear is broken, need to have it replaced.

SOURCE: Paper will not feed from tray and makes a loud

The paper is not feeding from the paper tray. The loud click is alarming, but not the problem. Check the adjustments in the paper tray. The left and right guides should be snug, but the rear guide should give between a 1/16 inch and a 1/8 inch of free play.

If the rear guide is tight, or even snug, that is the problem. You can check for this by depressing the lever on the right front of the tray. Depressing the lever should raise the stack of paper out of the tray so that it can slide forward.

If you remove the paper from the tray, you will see calibration marks for the paper size you are using. Unlock the rear paper guide, squeeze the release, and move the guide ot the mark for the size paper you are using. For example, it you are using letter size paper, the read guide should point to "LTR".

My brother DCP_7040 has been making loud clicking noises for sometime and will not print I get out of paper message. (It's full of paper.
Check there is nothing in the fuser at the back, and that the fuser will turn (CAREFUL it may be hot) Pull the drum and toner unit out, and separate the two components. Check the Developer roller on the front of the toner cartridge turns smoothly and quietly. Any noise is bad. Check the cylinder in the drum unit also turns smoothly. (turn it with the gear, don't put fingers on the cylinder itself). Put it all back together and listen for noise when the machine winds up. a loud ratchety noise usually indicates the gear train is under too much load and is often caused by a strain on the drum rotor.

Loud clicking noise when attempting to print
Try removing the ink catridges and checking them for any damage like leaking ink. Then replace them and try to print. Also, make sure there is nothing stuck in the paper feeding tray.

Your rollers may be worn and when they are trying to pick up the paper they are not able to . Buy taking your printer to an authorized technician for a maintenance cleaning this should resolve your issue.

Paper feed problem
The clicking noise is an indication that something's not right in the printer. But try taking out the cartridges from the printer. Then, close the cover. Remove all sheets of paper. Unplug the power supply from the printer. The power supply is the black box behind the printer where the power cord is attached. Wait at least 10-15 seconds before plugging it back in. Once printer's ready, reload the cartridges. Load some paper and try to print again. If this doesn't help and you're still getting that continuous clicking noise, it's a hardware issue. If that's the case, I strongly suggest you contact Lexmark Technical Support for further assistance. I hope I can assist you more on this.

Hello,
The loud clicking noise is either the toner cartridge or the paper feed. If the jam occurs in the drum and toner cartridge then I recommend changing the toner.
If the paper is not being fed at all then you need to have the paper feed kit replaced.

Loud clicking sound
We had the same problem, with a slightly different solution... it turned out in our case that the new toner cartridge's internal drum was too stiff, so the printer was trying to turn the toner spindle and failing, resulting in the clicking noise. Our solution was to manually turn the black center gear by hand a few times, and in doing so loosen the drum up a little, so that the printer could turn it. We put it back into the printer, and voila! No more clicking noise.
Thanks to whitehorse1 for his (or her) solution... though it wasn't the exact same problem for us, it was what put us on the right track. :)

top feeder for the scanner (on my x6570) had a loose piece of rubber stuck between the feed wheels. The rubber is part of the guiding mechanism that guides the paper to the feed wheels. Remove rubber strip and reattach it where it belongs.

Outgoing fax makes loud clicking noise
2 different problems here. 1st is with document feed and 2 is with paper feed.

1st prob seems to be with the paper feed roller not meshing at the gear. Probably a broken piece on the lower document tray assembly. No real fix for this unless you can strip it out and haywire it.

2nd prob is probably a poorly meshing drum unit. Examine the gear teeth on both the drum and the machine. As you have replaced the drum already (presumably with a brand new one) You might possibly find a missing or badly worn tooth on the messhing gear in the machine.
