The most likely cause is a broken drive belt. You don't say if it is a front or top loader. For a top loader, pull the machine out, and drop the drain hose into a bucket to empty the machine. Tilt the machine against the wall. Have someone steady it and look underneath. You should see the motor and belt, although some are direct drive.
For a front loader, the belt is accessed from the rear of the machine.
most frount loaders have and unlock pull ring on the door latch switch, it will mean removing the bottom access panel to reach up inside the machine and pull the release ring down to unlock the door
