Try a different battery. Sounds like the battery you installed might have been old and low on juice. Also change the sealing ring of the battery. Use a CR2025 energizer or duracell.

I had a problem just like this with a glucose monitor, and when I called the company, they just replaced it. The button switches could be slightly dirty or oxidized, and maybe cleaned with electrical contact cleaner- other than that, and cleaning the battery contacts with a qtip and at least 90% isopropyl alcohol, you will have to have it replaced or serviced. Here is their support site:

Good luck, and hope this helps.
u may have started wearing a Polar F11 Fitness heart rate monitor to help you keep track of your pulse during cardiovascular exercise. The monitor consists of a strap with electrodes that you attach to your chest, which transmit heart rate data to a receiver worn on your wrist like a watch. The wrist unit stores data and settings that you can customize, such as your weight, height and target heart rates. However, you may wish to reset the unit and start over with new settings. You can reset your Polar F11 by following a few easy steps.

The button contacts are obviously working as the Reset - i.e. pressing all buttons simultaneousy does work.
