CX10B Shredder purchased 7-25-10 at local Navy Exchange.
Been working great when it just turned on last night with nothing in the paper slot of the card slot. Had to turn it off to get the motor to stop. Tried it this morning, turned on , no motor response , put a piece of paper in then it started up but would not stop after the paper was shredded.

You did not give the model ## of your shredder. Most all shredders are OILED from the top slot where you you insert the paper to be shredded. DO NOT USE WD-40 OR ANY OTHER BRAND TYPE OIL. Use oil made for shredders or you can use SILCONE type oil. Wd Corp & Liquid Wrench companies make this type of oil. I have used it for more than 10 years in my shredder and I have not had a problem. The cutters work great.
Make sure BEFORE you oil that you make sure all shredded paper is removed from the cutters.
Spray from one side to the other(paper feeding slot) Run the shredder forward and backwards (WITHOUT PAPER) for about 5 seconds. This should be sufficient.
From your description, it sounds like when you insert the paper the motor turns on, but the paper is not pulled into the shredder, indicating the two shredder cylinders are not turning. The most likely cause of this is a stripped (missing teeth) main nylon gear. These can be replaced but require some effort.
Mineral oil is probably the best choice. You can also use "Paper Shredder Oil" which is probably the same thing but for more $$. Vegitable oil generally works well for lubing things, but have never tried it on a shredder.
could be the sensor needs cleaning or is now defective. Use a q-tip and insert it where the paper goes. Look for a small button which senses the paper and triggers the stredder motor.
Have you run oiled paper through the shredder? If not you need to do so. Office depot will sell you the oil and tell you how to use it. You can also hand feed a sheet of paper until it trips the paper sensors. Don't let the paper get into the cutters and let the machine run until it clears itself. If the shredder is old (over a year old) your motor may have bad bearings. Is it noisier then usual. If so the bearings are shot. If they are shot and you are out of warranty you are out of business. This is chinese junk and so far I have been unable to find parts. Hope this helps.
Some shredders aren't designed to shred anything more than paper. Credit cards, staples, paper clips and the like could have jammed it up. Try running the shredder in reverse and oiling the blades. More help with paper shredder oil here: http://hubpages.com/hub/Paper-Shredder-Oil
If you can't get the paper shredder up and running, it looks like you might have to pick up a new paper shredder. Paper shredders can be pretty cheap though, great guide to cheap paper shredders here: http://hubpages.com/hub/Best-Paper-Shredders
Shredders have a light emitter and detector inside the slot where you put the paper. When the paper is put in, the emitted light is reflected off the paper, detected, and then turns on the shredder by sending a signal to the control board. The emitter/detector often has a plastic cover which over time collects paper dust. The paper dust can reflect the emitted light back onto the detector, causing the shredder to remain on. You may need to remove the top of the shredder and remove the shredding mechanism to get to the light sensor. It's also possible that the components on the control board have changed value, causing the detector sensitivity to increase. This may result in the unit turning itself on in daytime and off at night.
Go to your local hardware store, and pick up a quart of 3 in 1 oil, shredder oil or some other light weight oil. (With the shredder in the off position or unplugged). Use a couple of ounces and Pour the oil over the paper that is jammed in the shredder. Use enough oil so it saturated the jammed paper. Wait about 10 - 15 minutes so the oil really soaks into the paper. Don't go crazy with the oil, and keep in mind what goes in, must come out. If you pour too much oil in the shredder, the exess oil will drip out. Don't worry about having oil in the shredder blade, this will help lubricated the teeth, and it will actually make your shredder blades last longer.
Now try to turn your shredder on after the oil has soaked into the paper for 10-15 minutes. Hopefully, the paper that is stuck has gotten softer, and then it should pass the paper. If it still doesnt work, then, try some more oil on the paper, and then wait and then turn the shredder to the forward, and then reverse mode, and then back and forth.
Hopefully your shredder will be unclogged by this time.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
