If the SIM card is rejected, the phone is not the problem. It's the SIM card. Please try inserting a new SIM card. It could be that the SIM card is expired to you haven't used it for a long time.
Most phones these days are SIM locked to certain networks. You either need a SIM card that is on the same network as you lost SIM, or the phone needs to be 'unlocked' to be used with any network (which is a breach of you mobile contract in most instances!).
