The contrast and brightness would have reset and so you can try and change the settings to increase to your desire.
the other possibility can be that the power supply is slightly low and casuing a reduction.

I turned on my projecter and the screen was not bright enought

There is reduction in brightness due to aging of the lamp. Normal life of projection lamp is 2000 to 5000 hours depending on the mode of operation. In power saving mode it is more. Please see the manual for specifications. If you have switched from standard mode to power saving (economy) mode, the brightness will reduce. If it is not then check the number of lamp hours & replace the lamp accordingly.

How to solve dim screen laptop monitor problem

You have a screen brighten key Up indicated by a sun emblem with a hole in the center. and a down brightness key indicated by a sun symbol. Mine is on the left arrow key and right error key. You hold down the Fn key and tap the bright up key or bright down key . I f this does not do it then your CRT/led screen is going bad because of the back light lamps. These lamps can be replaced, but it cost more than a LCD, which cost more than a new computer. Lets hope you can solve the problem with the Brightness Keys.

Screen brightness

The brightness of the screen depends on two things: the inverter and the lamp it lits. If the inverter is ok, then there may be something with the lamp. However, the lamp stays almost inside the screen and when you replaced the screen, it was probrably replaced too. Also: the inverter is diferent from note to note, was it replaced by the same type? The easiest way to discover the problem is to measure the voltage in the inverter (in and out).

My laptop will, once in a while (every couple months), have3 "issues" with its brightness/contrast. If I leave the brightness alone, it will turn most of the screen red. If I lighten the brightness AND the...

You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:
  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display or appear black.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Replacement lamp not bright

as i previously posted, my picture was dim, muddy looking after replacing lamp with osram lamp. i fixed mine by taking the screen off and cleaning the small mirror. it had a thick layer of dust on it, cleaned with a microfiber cloth. no water, no glass cleaners. i also used a very fine new small paint brush and dusted the projector lens which also had a dust film. brightness, contrast and clarity returned!

My picture brightness is uneven - there is a persistant bright field on my screen.

I have the exact same problem with my AE700. It a started about the same time, around 2500 hours for me. I lived with it untill I could afford a new bulb which arrived yesterday. The old bulb was still working at a 3603 hours when I installed the new one. But the new bulb didn't fix the problem for me either. I may try to take it apart this weekend and give it a good cleaning. Andy
