I have a 3 year old Whirlpool Duet Washer (model GHW9460PWO). For the last 2 years I've had intermittent, but frequent problems with the door lock (F/dl code). I could always get the washer to work again, but this time it looks like it's stuck for good. We replaced the door lock, but that did not help. What next?

The E2-F3 error usually doesn't cause a door lock problem. This error relates to the water temperature sensor. Frequently, the problem is that one wire in the wiring harness has broken. Then the message doesn't get to the control board. You'll have to unplug the wiring and test each individual strand. The insulation around the wiring will make it hard to visually find the broken wire. If the wires are intact, then the temperature sensor or the control board have a fault.
With the door lock problem, I'd suspect a problem with more of the wiring or the control board. First though try pressing Cancel, Drain and Spin (to drain any remaining water) or the power button. Some Duet washers have a Fan Dry option that keeps the door locked until the washer cycle is stopped with the Power button. Alternatively, try unplugging the washer or turning it off at the circuit breaker. Wait 30 minutes and then reconnect the power. If the control board sends the message to the lock then the door should open shortly.
I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the washer model number if you would like information on the price of the control board or a parts diagram. There should be a wiring diagram and trouble-shooting sheet inside the washer near the control panel. Open the back of this section of the washer to find it.
These things are getting more complex and electronic all the time and this does not help with the longevity of these units. It it telling you that there is a defective or intermittent door switch detected and when you reboot the unit it starts with all things at the zero point. I had a high end Whirlpool washer that had so many things wrong with it by description of the service man that they replaced it after 4 years of use. No more 30 year old washers with all these circuit boards in there- isn't technology wonderful?
Most likely cause is the door seal or proper name for part is door bellows where the door seal to the machine. Check for tears or rips inside the bellows and any cuts where the door meets the seal. The seal could also be pronated toward the inner tub too much just from wear. The seal would need to be replaced. Also make sure the door is locking. The reason it happens with the towels (heavy load) is b/c they put more pressure on the door making it easier to break the water tight seal. Please rate this post.
This advise is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet front loader washers and dryers with a Control Lock problem.
This may or may not be an indication of a serious problem. In the majority of the cases, this is a simple operator error. Nearly all these model appliances have some sort of Control Lock feature on the front panel now. This is a designed safety feature that is used to prevent small children from manipulating the controls. The controls can be easily locked or unlocked by pressing and holding the following button on the front panel:
Whirlpool Duet Washer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.
Whirlpool Duet Dryer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.
Kenmore Elite Washer - Press and hold the DRAIN/SPIN button for 3 seconds.
Kenmore Elite Dryer - Press and hold the AUTO DRY LEVEL button for 3 seconds.
These instructions may not be all inclusive for all Kenmore and Whirlpool models, but they are the most common. Chances are, if you have a Control Lock feature, the instructions will be printed on the front panel adjacent to the button that is required to lock or unlock the controls.
NOTE: These instructions may also work for newer model Maytag, Hotpoint, Admiral and Fridgidaire model front loaders as well. Refer to your owner's manual or front panel for instructions pertaining to your sepcific model.
If the Control Lock feature will not lock or unlock the appliance, unplugging the unit for AT LEAST 30 minutes is recommended in order to reset the main control board. In many cases this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches.

Press "end of cycle" for 3 seconds,
wait for 2 minutes & try the door. This is your childlock feature, do it again and the machine locks.
take off the panel below the door three screws and look for the tech sheet located on the right side. It will coach yoou thru the codes and common problems. Sounds like it may be the door swithch does it lock when you push the start? If not the door switch my guess would be a machine control. 877-262-1479 parts.
This error code indicates that the door is not locking. Is the washer door firmly shut?
The door must be completely closed for the washer to operate. The door may look as if it's closed, but it may not be latched. Open the door and firmly close it. Were you washing a large load?
Before you close the washer door, check for laundry items sticking out beyond the door opening. Leave enough space in the washer to allow the clothes to freely tumble. Reduce your load size if needed. To remove the error display, press Pause/Cancel twice.
If Pause/Cancel does not work:
Unplug the washer or disconnect the power for one minute.
Plug in the washer or reconnect the power.
Re-select the cycle and press Start.
NOTE: If the error remains on the display, and all of the other conditions above have been checked, call for service.
no, the board and wax motor is one possible problem but more likely youll need the motor kit with spped control. even more expesive but prove to be a big problem with this washer
