It has to be one of two things: bad battery or your charging circuit does not work correctly to charge the battery. We see this all the time. www.nabilselectronics.com

Why does my tom tom keep going the shut down page every 10 seconds I have pressed reset but makes no difference I ride bmw r1200rt

One possible cause is that your battery is low or the battery can no longer hold a (good) charge. In this case, the TomTom is shutting down because there's not enough battery to keep it running, even though it is plugged into a power source.

To determine if the battery is the cause, try to charge the TomTom battery .... using a (USB) connection to your computer, or a direct power source (i.e. while the TomTom is not being used). Let it charge for a few hours until the batter charge indicator shows that it is fully charged (or just leave it charging overnight).
Then, unplug the TomTom from the "charger" and power it up. If the TomTom (battery) doesn't hold a (good) charge, the device will shut down within a few minutes, e.g. 10 mins or much less.
When you (then) plug the device into a power source, and it doesn't stay on (i.e. it keeps shutting down after 10 seconds), you can safely conclude that the battery is the cause of your problem.

I attached my tomtom 920 to my computer and connected to the tomtom website for updates. After a lenghty period of downloading programs a message popped up that it had been updated. I updated all settings...

Hmm
Sounds like the updates had not quite finished.

Did you back up before ?
If so do a restore and try again.

My tomtom 920 keeps shuting down every 2min.gives me 10sec to yes or no .

If the battery is flat or dead it will never go on until you either charge the battery or change it. Batteries have a life of 2-3 years if used correctly.
That is charged using an AC source and definitely not starting the engine while the unit is plugged in.

1. Ensure that the battery is fully charged.

2. Try with different battery to determine whether the issue is with the battery or with the GPS device.

Hope this will help you.

Good Luck!!!!!!!

The Logo screen freezes on start up.

Connect it to your pc then turn it on. It should either connect or ask you to connect to the pc. If tt home opens shut it down. Do a complete backup of your unit onto the desktop. DO NOT USE TOMTOM HOME TO DO THIS!!!! After doing a complete backup format the drive on your tt useing fat 32. Open tt home and let it reload your os. Do this a couple of times to get the newest os. Disconnect your tt from the computer the way you normally do and restart your tt. Reconnect your tt and do not let home start. Go to your backup and copy and paste your maps back onto the root of your tt. If you have any question email me.
Hope this helps

Threatening shut down

It is probably your internal battery and needs replacement. There is a menu function to not shutdown when loss of power (under battery preference, after screen save). If you don't use the battery, try this.

My tomtom 920 keeps acting like it is shorting out.

If its still under warranty, get it repaired.. it sounds like hardware problem. Of course, you'll need to contact TT for repair options.

TomTom has difficulties locating satellites.

Download the latest software tomtom home and do a gpsquickfix. THis will solve the problem and tell the unit where the satellites are for the next 7 days. May need to do gpsquickfix often.
