The port the modem is attached to could not be opened; Opening the modem device failed with error 000005aa

When I try to query the modem via device manager I get the following error: "The port the modem is attached to could not be opened"

When I view the modem error log i get the following:

    I have been unable to access the internet via a dial-up connection and when I query the modem via the device manager and get "port the modem is attached to could not be opened". What to do?

    Ran the troubleshooter, that did not help.

    My computer is a Dell Dimension 8400. Device manager shows no conflicts!

    The port that the modem is attached could not be opend while running query modem in vista home premium 32bit.

Sounds like a hardware problem

First > try changing the modem port (default is com3, try changing it to com4 or com5 whichever is free)

Try querying the modem again

Second > Contact your modem manufacturer

Get the motherboard driver from the manufacturer site and run it on your pc it will surely work

You really might want to try creating the connections again on your PS3 system on the same modem/router you are using.

Just re-configure you connection settings and see if that helps.

Phone line cable ok?
W7 uses dynamic addressing so should set port automatically.

The ZTE modem when initially connected to any system loads as a storage device which contains the software necessary to install the modem. Connect the ZTE and open it in Explorer. Double click the setup file (.exe) to start installation. Follow instructions and allow installation to complete. The modem is automatically installed during this setup. Once completed restart and then your ZTE functions as a modem.

The 678 error means that the modem is not connecting to the server because of problem at the server end. Contact the helpline of your service provider and ask them to rectify the problem at their end.

8350i modem problem
Hi,

BlackBerry 8350i does not support "Phone as Modem" straight out of the box :(

Your best solution would be to try Shark Modem. It's a BlackBerry application that allows you to use your BlackBerry modem. 8350i BlackBerry Modem Application

Confirmed that the 8350i doesn't support modem > here

There is an Error 692 : There is hardware failure in your modem.
Dear!!!
Error : Hardware failure in port or attached device.

Solution :
1. Check to make sure the correct modem is selected in the dialer.
2. Make sure there are not multiple modems installed.
3. Uninstall and reinstall the modem.
4. Make sure that no other programs are using your modem. Fax software, Supervoice, etc...
5. Ctrl-Alt-Delete, if you see RNAAPP loaded,

Internet connection through Internal modem in Laptop
Two solutions:
First for the more experienced:
find the modem on the underside of the laptop unscrew/ re-seat the modem, test, if it works great, if it doesn't try inserting foam, or paper between the modem and the "black case"... if you cant find the modem locate the manual for the laptop.
second (and possiblely the best) 
Disable the onboard modem and replace it with a USB one

Modem in use
Try the following:

-Open the Control Panel
-Open System
-Click on Device Manager
-Click on Modems
-Highlight and right click on the listed modem
-Select Uninstall

Close out anything open and Restart.

IF (!) Windows is cooperating, it should 'find a new device' and reinstall the Winmodem (it's only software and a little telephone line matching).

If Windows fails to recognize the 'new device,' you will have to manually reinstall it via the 'add new hardware' path in the Control Panel.

As with any Windows stuff - rotsa ruck!
