Relay in kenmore frig

I have an older model kenmore frig/freezer with ice and water in the door. i had a contactor go bad day before yesterday. got the new part and replaced it. 24 or so hours later the frig and freezer is doing the same thing again. the frig and freezer will not cool at all. and my question is will a compressor failure cause the problem with the contactor relay going out?

Yes it can. a short in the windings will cause a relay to fail. let me know if you want to make sure it is a compressor

I saw your response to another Kenmore frig and I have a similar problem I want to ask you about. I have a Side-by-side Kenmore frig(model 106.9555722) that we've had for 16 years!! Other than r

I have seen this one other time in all my years of appliance repair and changing out the "water inlet valve" corrected the problem. I don't have an answer to why it did, but it did. Here is the valve for your unit.
After you change the valve be sure to purge the water line for a good 5 - 10 mins to get all the nasty water out. Keep me posted!

My ice maker on my kenmore refrigerator is not working. a red lightg is flashing on the ice maker. everything looks ok, no ice though!

I had the same issue with my frig. I read on line where Someone open the freezer and ran a hair dryer in it. So I tried it I turned off the water draned the water side out left my door open while I had the hair dryer running for a half hour then turned the water back on and sure enough after the line unfroze and it started making ice. there was a little blurb on the freezer about how much water presure was needed. I found this information just by doing a google search on my model frig.

Freezer is working fine, but frig is warm,

Look for the return vent near the bottom probably behind the crisper. You'll have to remove it to see the vent. There may be an adjustable flap in to to adjust the meat keeper area. Make sure it's open.

Kenmore Model #253-64802400

IT SOUND AS THOUGH THE COMPRESSOR IS NOT RUNNING. IF IT IS AND YOU HAVE NO COOLING, THEN YOU HAVE A SEALED SYSTEM PROBLEM AND WILL NEED A SERVICE TECH. IF IT IS NOT RUNNING, UNPLUG IT AND REMOVE THE RELAY AND OVERLOAD FROM THE SIDE OF THE COMPRESSOR. MAKE NOTE OF WHERE THE WIRES CONNECT AND REMOVE THEM. NEXT, SHAKE THE RELAY AND LISTEN FOR WHAT SOUNDS LIKE A BUNCH OF SMALL ROCKS IN IT. IF YOU HEAR THIS, THE CERAMIC DISC IN THE RELAY IS BLOWN AND YOU NEED A NEW ONE. IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE POWER SURGES TO BLOW THESE DISCS.

Kenmore 19 frezer on bottom

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

Leaking water

test: first, turn off water supply to frig. then dry up all water. then ensure frig is running at right temperature. now gradually turn on water and observe where leak is. My guess is it is overflowing the ice-maker. there is an adjustment for this. pop off the cover over the end of the ice-maker. look for a screw adjustment. turn it counterclockwise.
