SOURCE: I have a HP 6210

I had the same problem with a HP C5280.
Solved by temporarily removing power to the memory chip which "remembers" cartridges and their expiration dates. There is an internal battery which needs to be removed or temporarily disconnected.

On the C5280 raise the lid and remove the left hand panel (There are 2 screws which require a "star" screwdriver to remove") This reveals some electrical connections at the bottom rear of the printer. There is a small red and black pair of wires in a nylon connector. Gently pull on the connector to break the connection. Now power the printer up. Remove and replace the cartridges as necessary. The error message should go away. If not, try the procedure again, removing the other connections (one is for the tri colour cartridge, one for the black).

Once you have recovered your printer, you can reconnect all the wires, replace the cover, and you are back in business.

Up yours, HP!

My HP PSC 1610 all-in-one (problems included, pun intended) was brought from Europe (b/w cartdridge 338) to latinamerica. My european cartridge ran out so I spent $29 in a new cartridge. Here in...

Hi,
Looks like there is a fix for this by installing a fix - information here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?dlc=en&lc=en&product=390315&lang=en&cc=us&docname=c00500458
However it is suggested that this only helps before the problem has occured and you may need to replace the cartridge anyway. Some users have had replacements sent to them by HP though when they have explained the situation directly. You can read other users experience here which will hopefully help:

HP PSC 2355 incorrect print cartridges error message

not quiet a solution dugguly but i've just had the same problem in reverse, i moved to the us with same printer, ink ran dry, it won't take hp94. after 3 phone calls and 4 emails with hp i learned that all hp printers sold after 2004 are regionalised, therefore a us printer will NOT WORK with UK bough cartridges and vice-a-versa. the only way round this is to call the HP support and ask to be taken through the step by step guide to reseting the region of your printer to the UK regional setting OR and this is my option, get friends/family in the US to ship US cartridges to you in the UK. Too bad as Tesco do a good line in gneric cartridges - Good luck - mattw

Black 852 print cartridge inserted now is not intended for use in

Definitely take the printer, cartridge and all to the store and show them what is going on. They must make this right for you since they told you it would work. Be firm. Go prepared with paper and pen to write down the name of the person helping you. If you do not get satisfaction, ask to speak to the supervisor.
