Closed caption option not highlighted

What is the TV source or input? Unless the source is antenna or cable using the antenna in, the captions have to be disabled at the set-top box that is providing the signal. Some set-top boxes have a CC button on the remote but many have this hidden in the menu system.

My IPTV box requires me to press Menu, choose the Settings menu and then enter a code provided by the provider. Once in the menu, the captions are enabled in the Hardware > Audio menu. Some satellite dish set top boxes have different access methods depending on the TV setup. If you have a master box that feeds two TVs, the setting menu to control the closed captions was only available on the TV closest to that box. (This was the case for a Dish receiver with a Single or Dual mode. In single mode, turning on the CC enabled the captions for both TVs. In dual mode, the two TVs could be tuned to different channels but only the TV nearest the set top box would display the closed captions if the feature was enabled. On that receiver, the closed captions were reached by pressing Menu. Then the captions options were under Properties > Closed Captions.)

Please indicate what the TV source is for further information on where the sub-menu for the closed captions will be toggled on and off.

I hope this helps.

I have two Philips TV both purchased withing the past 4 years. How do I obtailn Closed Captioning. I use the Comcast remote and can not find my Philips remote. Please help this 83 year old man. Thanks,...

With Comcast you have to turn off the Comcast receiver by pressing the on off button located on the receiver itself not on the remote control. Then you have to press the menu button that is located on the receiver itself. You will see the hidden menu. Then you can use the up down arrows to go down to closed captioning and the right left arrows to choose enable. Then you just turn the receiver back on with the on off button located on it and you should have closed captioning. I am assuming you have a dvr and not a basic digital cable box.

How do I get closed captioning on my 625 dish dvr.

Guest,

The 625 receiver does not have a setting to control closed caption. This is a setting from your TV itself. I would look at your TV manual to see how you can turn the feature on. I hope this helps.

New Toshiba 37" flat screen always displays Closed Captions. Feature is turned off with TV remote, feature not available on Cable remote. Toshiba says it is Cable company problem, Mediacom cable can...

I've had this problem for a bit, it seems that there are two ways to turn off the closed captions.
1:Menu--->Preferences--->CC and Digital Audio Selectors. This displays the menu on the bottom of the screen with the choices of Closed Caption formats and digital audio. This is not the correct menu to be in. This turns off the CC as long as the TV is not turned off or the input is not changed. This is a temporarily either turns the CC on or off.
The Solution:
2:Menu--->Setup--->TV Settings--->Closed Captions Settings Displays a menu in the center of the screen, with the options of Turning the Closed Captions on and off, the Analog CC Mode and Digital CC settings. You must turn the Closed Captions off in this menu or the changes to CC are temporary.
For the record:
1. I'm aware I'm 2 years late on this, but I just want others to be able to solve this issue on their Toshiba. Don't worry, my Toshiba is the same age as yours
2. I've lost faith in Tech Support ages ago. I'm sorry that they were that incompetent.
3. Its ridiculous that there are two entirely different menus to alter the closed captions. Took me forever to figure this out.
Hope this helps you and others.

Closed caption problem

I had the same issue... here's what I did.  If power off your cable box, then press the menu button, there's a selection to enable or disable Closed Captioning.  This works for both HD series Motorola boxes Comcast offers, at least in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.  Hope this helps!

Closed caption activiting on everytime tv is turned on

If you have the Suddenlink remote and the DVR box you can turn captions on or off by accessing a technical menu. To do this, press POWER and Menu buttons together (menu 2 times) to bring up a special menu. Select Closed Captions. On the popup menu select closed captions and using Select button change to OFF or ON as you wish. The trick is to get the menu to come up. Timing of pressing the two buttons is frustrating and it may take a few times befotre you get the special menu.
