Our samsung 214t will not display a decent image until it has been turned on and off a few times. Any thoughts?

Check for a failure of the capacitors on the power supply board. This is a common problem with these units and its a very easy repair. Here is a link to a repair guide for the SyncMaster 214T which uses the ame power supply board so the repair information would be the same for the 2 units.

You may have a faulty inverter or loose power inverter connection. OR
You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

You need to check that display resolution in your Display properties is set to the native resolution for wide monitor typically 1440><900 for the size you mention.
Blurred image is due to using 4 : 3 resolution setting of 1024 >< 768 on a 16 : 9 wide monitor.

you have to pry it open with a small flathead screwdriver.

Almost all of them are invisible, so jab your screwdriver in there and pry it sideways until you hear a pop.

You will not be ableto do this without some plastic being deformed.

my Samsung A800 also lost its inner display recently. When I open the phone, the inner display lights up but fails to show any image. Outer display is mostly OK, once it had trouble to "lock" the image and after opening and closing the phone a few times the outer display showed the image with light and dark bits inverted.
Switching phone off and on restores the inner display most of the time, but the image only lasts until I close the phone.
