My refrigerator water dispenser stopped suddenly yesterday. Water connection is good, filter is 3 months old, switch clicks on main panel. Have held switch down for a while. ???? Help please

Your filter reset is just a independent timer set for six months. It is not tied into your water filter. You should change your water filter when your water dispenser flow is slow and/or you start to get small ice cubes. Depending on the usage, your water filter can last 18-24 months or more.

Unplug your unit for about 10 minutes to let the unit power down, then plug it back in.

There's an ice- or water-dispensing problem The ice and water-dispensing system of your refrigerator is quite complex. Many components work together to provide the ice and water. Aside from a simple problem of a leaky water tube or a jammed ice chute, most other components are not user serviceable. We suggest that you contact a qualified appliance repair technician for such repairs.

There are TWO (2) different electric water-valves...
A generic WHIRLPOOL part number = wr57x10032
(typically you can hear the "THUMP" when the are working...

most fridges stop dispensing water when you open the door. Find the door switch and make sure fridge interior light goes on/off when you manually press door switch. This would show you that the door switch was faulty.

If the water connection to the appliance is one of those watts flood-safe water lines, it may have stuck shut. I've seen this happen when the house water pressure is too high.

Does it still make ice?

If so, then the water connection is good, and either the switch in the water dispenser has failed or the water shutoff valve for the water dispenser has gone bad.

Some models have a problem with the water line getting frozen, such that simply leaving the light on in the water dispenser compartment overnight and/or manually defrosting the unit can get it working again.

Check the reservoir behind the crispers for frozen lines. If it is froze it will take several days to thaw out with the frig below 40 degF. If it is not frozen you can disconnect the line at the water valve and see if the lever is operating the valve. Switch, water valve and waterlines and filter. process of elimination to find the culprit. Eric

Yes, it could be the water filter. Also check to make sure the water is turned on and that any lines to the refrigerator aren't kinked or crushed somewhere. It's also possible that you will not be making any ice as well if your appliance has an ice maker

Where the water supply connects to the Ref there is one water valve but, two solenoids. One for the water and one for the ice maker. An OHM meter will tell you if these solenoids are good.

Solenoids good;
Set the meter to volts and check if power is getting to the water solenoid while pressing the water despensor. No power, bad switch.

It seems that the bulb in the front panel is pulling to much current as it ages and it makes the control panel in not work properly. Removing the bulb will fix the problem - just fixed mine.

Also seems to match your symptoms (works sometimes and then not others - bulb current is inconstent, light dims when dispense lever pressed - again wrong current draw).

try taking out bottom trays there should be a plastic water tank 2 small pipes atatched this could be freezing up use hairdrier to defrost then check if water is working

in my case the drain plug at fan was iced up and fridge would not keep temp

remove the light panel cover 1 srew at top there are 3 screws remove these remove plugs for light and thermostat.
remove 4 srews on bottom panel and remove it is on with sticky tape so take care remove 2 plugs for motor use hairdrier to defrost the pipes at back, remove 5 screws to take motor plate off on my fridge the drain hole was full of ice defrost with hairdrier refit all parts and if the same as my fridge it should work ok

Check the water valve in back of refrigerator and make sure it is working ok
