Command line only logs in as operator - how to reset to factory defaults

How can I reset my switch such that it has the factory defaults (specifically, the manager password)?

I have physical access to the switch and have a serial line connected to the console, but I only seem to be able to get operator access.

    I'll answer my own question:
Turns out that there is no magic "hold the reset button while powering on the switch" to get everything back to the factory defaults like there is on most other manufacturer's switches.

But all is not lost - a call to A-T's tech support ((800) 428-4835) with the MAC address of the switch will enable them to look up a "backdoor admin password". I was able to use this backdoor password to reset the real manager password.

Um, maybe I should be one fo the experts here? ;-)

What is the default password for cisco

There are two main methods to return a Cisco router to its original factory defaults. These two methods are described below.
Method 1
1. uses the config-register 0x2102 command in global configuration mode.
2. Check the configuration register on the router by issuing the show version command.
3. The configuration register setting is displayed in the last line of the show version command output and should be set to 0x2102. If this is not the case, enter the config-register 0x2102 command once in global configuration mode.
router#configure terminal
router(config)#config-register 0x2102
router(config)#end
router#
4. If the show version command is issued again, the same line in the command output will have '(will be 0x2102 at next reload)' appended to the current register setting.
5. Erase the current start-up configuration on the router with the write erase command.
Reload the router with the reload command. When prompted to save the configuration, DO NOT save.
router#reload
System configuration has been modified. Save? [yes/no]: n
Proceed with reload? [confirm]
Once the router reloads, the System Configuration Dialog appears.
--- System Configuration Dialog ---
Would you like to enter the initial configuration dialog? [yes/no]:
The router is now reset to the original factory defaults.
Method 2
1. uses the config-register 0x2142 command in global configuration mode.
2. Enter the config-register 0x2142 command in global configuration mode.
router(config)#config-register 0x2142
This causes the router to ignore the start-up configuration on the next reload. If a show version is issued, the last line in the command output will have '(will be 0x2142 at next reload)' appended to the current configuration register setting.
3. Reload the router using the reload command in enable mode. It is not necessary to save when prompted to save the system configuration.
router#reload
System configuration has been modified. Save? [yes/no]: n
Proceed with reload? [confirm]
After the router has reloaded, the System Configuration Dialog appears.
4. Enter no to the question "Would you like to enter initial configuration dialog?"
5. Change the configuration register setting to 0x2102 by entering the config-register 0x2102 command once in global configuration mode.
6. Issue the write memory command in enable mode to overwrite the existing start-up configuration with the current running configuration.
7. Reload the router with the reload command in enable mode.
Once the router reloads, the System configuration Dialog appears.
--- System Configuration Dialog ---
Would you like to enter the initial configuration dialog? [yes/no]:
The router is now reset to the original factory defaults.
Note: The configurations below are stored in ROMMON, and cannot be reset to Factory Default Settings by the write erase or config-register 0x2142 commands.

How to reset zebra p4t ribbon cartridge?

Below are the command sequences that can be applied to default the parameters referenced above:
Examples:
! U1 do "device.restore_defaults" "bluetooth"
! U1 do "device.restore_defaults" "ip"
! U1 do "device.restore_defaults" "wlan"
! U1 do "device.restore_defaults" "power"
! U1 do "device.restore_defaults" "display"
The zpl parameters can be restored to their factory defaults on the P4T series, RW series and QLPlus series by deleting the ZPL_CFG.CFG file. This binary file contains the zpl settings and will be recreated automatically when restarting the printer. The newly created file will contain the binary equivelant of the factory zpl default settings.
The ZQ500, QLn series and the iMZ allows the ^JUF and ^JUN command to be sent to restore parameters to their factory default condition.
Example: ^XA^JUF^XZ^XA^JUN^XZ^XA^JUS^XZ
Please note that the iMZ uses line print mode by default. The command ! U1 setvar "device.languages" command may need to be adjusted to se the iMZ back to ZPL if necessary.
! U1 setvar "device.languages" "zpl"

There is an error in connect...........

If the error in connecting to the internet or to a LAN is prevalent with all network adapters, reset the TCP/IP Protocol stack byrunning the following command from the command prompt window:
1. Go to start menu and click on run.
2.Type in cmd.exe and press enter.
3.In the command prompt window, type in the command:
netsh int ip reset C:\connlogreset.log

The command will reset the TCP/IP protocol stack to it's defaults, and the reset data will be logged in the text document connlogreset.log.

If the above fails, disable any protocols that are not needed in the connection, e.g. SLIP(Serial Line Internet Protocol for Linux) as it's only used to connect to Linux servers in a LAN.
If using a broadband modem, disable NDIS driver wrapper from the GSM broadband client software provided with the modem, and update the software if possible.

I can't turn on windows firewall. respons message: windows cant running ics service

The Windows Firewall Service not started.
Now to fix:
1. Click Start > Run > Type services.msc
2. Scroll down to Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)
3. Double click it.
4. Change startup type to Automatic and Click Start.
5. Click Apply and then OK
6. Reboot.

To reset the Windows Firewall to the factory default state, try this:
Type firewall.cpl in Start, Run dialog.
Click the Advanced tab.
Click the Restore Defaults button.
Click Yes to continue when you see this dialog
Restoring the default settings will delete all settings of Windows Firewall that you have made since Windows was installed. This may cause some programs to stop working.

Alternately, you can use the NETSH command-line to accomplish this:
Open a Command Prompt window and type NETSH FIREWALL RESET
This command resets firewall configuration to default. This provides the same functionality as the Restore Defaults button in the Windows Firewall interface.

DES-3226L A1

Log in to the switch as an administrative user (using the login command).

You can type the following command:

reset {config|system}

If you type "reset config" all of the factory default settings are restored on the switch except for the IP address, user
accounts, and the switch history log.

If you type "reset system" all of the factory default settings are restored on the switch.

If you just type "reset" by itself, the switch’s current IP address, user accounts, and switch history log are retained. All other
parameters are restored to their factory default settings.

How to reset the cisco switch to factory default?

When you say you were able to connect to the switch through hyperterm, were you able to login with the enable password? If not, you cannot reset the factory defaults without the enable password. If you do not have this then search on Cisco's site for password recovery for your model switch. If you did login with the enable password, the command to run for CATos is "clear config all". For Cisco IOS, you have the right command with "write erase". When you issue that command, do you get a "Erase of nvram: complete " or an error? Are you issuing the "reload" command after a successful erase? Be sure you answer No when it asks "System configuration has been modified. Save? [yes/no]:" as sometimes this seems misleading and some people think they mean to save the reloaded default. They are really warning you that you are about to loose the old configuration and attempting to prevent you from accidently erasing it. So answer "no". After a successful reload of the IOS you should also clear any VLAN information. To do this, issue "delete flash:vlan.dat" and then do another "reload".
