For a Gox20:
The splash image, or startup image, must be named splashw.bmp
The shut down image must be named antitheftw.bmp

Both images must be 480x272 pixels big.
All images should reside at the root of the unit.

Im trying to update my tomtom start.but i cant get it to dwnld on my laptop.

I'm assuming you have
- the TomTom HOME (or MyDrive Connect) software installed on your computer/laptop.
- you have a TomTom account and have registered your TomTom device (in that account) on the TomTom webiste
- you are able to successfully plug your TomTom device to your computer/laptop, e.g. using the USB (cable or cradle)
- you can log into your TomTom account and have the TomTom software (HOME or MyDrive Connect) recognize your device (as being connected)
- you see the list of software/data/map updates available for your device
... and you still can't download the software/data/maps ... ? to update your TomTom device ... ?

Have you been able to get any help/support from the TomTom website ? www.tomtom.com to do this ?

When turning on my tomtom xxl550 screen stays white

It appears that the TomTom device is not starting up.

Have you tried to RESET it ? .... either, hold down the power ON/OFF button for a long while ... (e.g. 30 seconds or more) ... until the device shuts down (turn off) and starts up (then let go of the button)..... or use a pin (paper clip) to push into the RESET hole at the bottom of the device.

If it still doesn't start up, your TomTom software may have been corrupted. You'd want to reinstall it from your back-up, or use the Home software to download and install a current Navigation software for your device (model).

Custom Content Issues on Fiat TomTom Blue&Me 2

It can be done but its not easy.
1. Borrow a tomtom off a friend that has an older version that connects upto tomtom HOME and not My Drive connect.
2.Make a copy of the contents of that device onto the desktop of your pc. (*create a folder and call it tomtom)
3. Now on the copy, your done with the borrowed unit. Open the map folder and add the 'car' images you want into the 'brand' folder. If it doesnt exist create one in the map folder naming it 'brand'
4. Now copy everything onto a SD card
5. Go onto tomtom website and download 'tomtom content transfer assistant' and install
6. Connect your newer device to the pc and run the connect assistant.
7. Plug in the sd card when asked (connect old device)

It will then copy start up, shut down images, brand folder over to the new unit.

This should allow what ever you put in the brand folder to be displayed.

Our TomTom One N14644 has started shutting itself down after three or so different screens, so no complete address can be entered. We tried reset, and now it shuts itself down at the select voice screen. ...

There's a possibility that the navigation software is corrupted.
Have you tried to recover it from your backup (on your computer) ?
Otherwise, you'll want to use TomTom Home (or MyDrive Connect) to see if you can download and re-install the software from the tomtom webiste.
Recently, TomTom has decided to limit/stop support (including software/maps, etc.) for certain (older) models of TomTom GPS. If your model is one of those, you're out of luck. TomTom is trying to have you buy a new model.

The Logo screen freezes on start up.

Connect it to your pc then turn it on. It should either connect or ask you to connect to the pc. If tt home opens shut it down. Do a complete backup of your unit onto the desktop. DO NOT USE TOMTOM HOME TO DO THIS!!!! After doing a complete backup format the drive on your tt useing fat 32. Open tt home and let it reload your os. Do this a couple of times to get the newest os. Disconnect your tt from the computer the way you normally do and restart your tt. Reconnect your tt and do not let home start. Go to your backup and copy and paste your maps back onto the root of your tt. If you have any question email me.
Hope this helps

Can not use computer voices on my tomtom 520t

On your device you may have a corrupt file that is causing the noise distortion when you use the computer voices. The solution to this is to completely remove the software from your device and reinstall it again as described in the steps below. Please ensure that you have the latest TomTom Home software installed on your computer:-

You can download and install the latest version of TomTom HOME from the following link:
http://www.tomtom.com/home

Once you have the latest version of TomTom Home installed, please follow these steps:-

STEP 1. Creating a Manual backup of your TomTom

• Charge your unit for at least two hours (preferably via the home charger)
• Perform a reset on your device (see: http://www.tomtom.com/6965 )

If you have not made a backup yet you can do so by making a manual backup of your TomTom. To do this, please look at the following web page:-

http://www.tomtom.com/3171#backup

• Connect your TomTom to the computer
• Open My Computer, you should see the TomTom as a removable drive, double click into it. (on a mac you will see the TomTom as a disk drive on your desktop)
• You will see a list of files and folders.
• Copy all of the folders on the TomTom, one by one to the backup folder. DO NOT copy the 'Loquendo' folder.
• This can take up to 1 hour to complete depending on the device.
• If you get any error messages while copying, move on to the next folder and copy that to the backup folder.
• If possible, please make a note of any error message that occur while copying the folders, and make a note of which folder causes the error message.

IMPORTANT: We advise you to follow the next steps ONLY if you have made a successful backup of your device as described in step 1. If you are unable to complete step 1, please reply back with a list of yellow folders that you have managed to successfully copy to your PC and also reply back with any error messages that you receive at this point.

STEP 2. Format the hard-disk,

• Open 'My Computer'
• Right click on the TomTom icon (the device should be seen in drive E,F,G,H,I etc) and select 'Format'.
• Do a full format by selecting FAT 32 and click on Start, do not select 'quick format'. The TomTom is now formatted.
• Disconnect the TomTom from the computer and switch it on. It will load up with a red cross on the screen.
• Reset the TomTom with a paperclip in the reset hole for 30 seconds, see http://www.tomtom.com/6965 in how to do this.
• Once Reset, switch the TomTom off, disconnect it from the computer and then switch it back on again, it will still show a red cross on the screen.

STEP 3. Restore the Folders to the TomTom

• Connect your TomTom back to the computer and make sure it is switched on
• Go to your backup folder on your desktop, double left click into it. You will see all of your backup folders.
• Copy the folders one by one to the TomTom by right clicking on the folder, select copy then open My Computer, double left click onto the TomTom drive and choose paste.
• Turn the device off (with the on/off switch) and disconnect it from the computer.
• Switch the TomTom back on.

STEP 4. Update your device

• Open TomTom Home
• Connect your device to the PC
• A list of updates should appear, if not, click on Update my Go
• Select only the program application update.
• Click on Update and Install.
• Once Installed, open TomTom Home
• Click on 'Device -> Disconnect Device'.
• Turn the device off (with the on/off switch) and disconnect it from the computer.
• Switch your TomTom On to complete the installation.

The Application is now installed, and your TomTom should now be working.

STEP 5. Run the Clear Flash Tool

• Connect your TomTom to the computer
• Close TomTom Home. (on a PC, make sure you close TomTom Home from the system tray in the bottom right hand corner of your screen by the computer clock)
• Download and run the clear flash tool from : http://www.tomtom.com/updates/clear_flash/clear_flash.exe Make sure your TomTom is connected to the computer and switched on when you do this.

• Once Installed, open TomTom Home
• Click on 'Device -> Disconnect Device'.
• Turn the device off (with the on/off switch) and disconnect it from the computer.
• Switch your TomTom On to complete the installation.

STEP 6. Install a computer voice

• Connect your TomTom to the computer
• Open TomTom Home
• Click on 'Add maps, traffic and voices -> computer voices
• select the voice of Kate and install it.

The Computer voice is now installed, and your TomTom should now be working.
