Same problem. Intel proset wireless comes up with "select wireless on below to enable wirless networking", but there is no "wireless on" option. The hardware switch pops up the wireless/bluetooth toggle interface, but wheneve I click on it it disappears without switching anything on.

I have two problems with asus M51S series. One is my wireless button malfunction. It shows me off when ever i turn on/off. I use the fn+f2 keys to turn wireless on and off. Second thing my right side hinges popped off. I return the laptop to the service center and they fixed and as soon as i received it again popped off....ie annoying...... And in usage the touch pad is always a problem. It miss keys due to the unneccesary touch of our hand which is not standard. Other functions are okae.......

I have the AR928X Wireless Adapter on the Asus G72GX, and I believe the ATH9K drivers are to blame. Others have pointed to the recent 2.6.30 kernel. The defect came to light when I did a kernel update. Up until then, the switch and hot-keys worked without issue. I spent over a week investigating it, and the only solution I've found is to do a hard shutdown, with the switch 'on' and power up again. Attempting to start the wifi card manually in Ubuntu failed, iwconfig up failed with REASON 132. RFKILL tells me there is a hard lock on my wifi, meaning the hardware is physically off. Rebooting into Windows 7 does not resolve the problem. Windows cannot detect any wireless networks when the switch is on. Mobility center does not allow me to do this or that with my adapter, it is simply grayed out.

The issue has come up at a different time when I suspend my computer. In Windows, I went to Power Management and made sure that under no circumstances will my wifi switch be turned off in order to save power.

A hard shut down with the switch in the on position, and booting into Ubuntu, then rebooting into Windows seems to solve the problem. I will just refrain from using the switch or the hotkey to turn off my wifi. If you need to turn it off, do a soft disable from the device manager rather.

Best of luck.

Solution No.4 "As a final act of "what the hell, it couldn't hurt", I disabled the driver in the control panel and then re-enabled it. The wifi light came on but the computer still couldn't find any wireless networks.

I restarted the computer and then it recognized all the networks in my area. I had to set up the connection to my modem again, but its working now." Worked a treat for me except I just updated the driver.

Same problem with my u30jc.Everything working fine for two and a half years untill yesterday when I turned off my wifi with the external switch as I'm used to do.
The solution for me was to uninstall wireless console 3 and to reinstall it again (a newer version by the way).
After reboot everything worked again as before.

I used comment # 8. I turned on the net4switch and then turned off and on the wireless switch and clicked on the tower icon, the ring turned golden and my wireless was fully working in about. 30 seconds. Great tip. I have an asus g60, and lost my wireless when I hit the off switch by accident while watching hulu.

Maybe your wireless button is working fine. Due to some other problem, your wifi is not working. There are many reasons to stop wifi on your laptop. You have to check it manually one by one.

Restart Windows wireless services.
Reinstall Wifi driver.
Update your windows.
Check wifi router settings.
Forget and reconnect with the network.
Check the wireless card.

So, these are a few things that you need to check on your laptop if your Asus laptop wifi stop working.

Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for a full minute. Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and see if this helps the issue

SOURCE: my asus laptop wireless switch does not work

You may have deleted a program that a driver or utility needed in order to function. You can try a hardware search from the device manager, but more that likely you will need to download and reinstall the drivers for the wireless from Fujitsu's support site.

SOURCE: ibm t30 keyboard stuck in odd mode

First, if there is no Euro symbol then this isn't a European keyboard, or it was made before the Euro was introduced, which I believe is the issue in this case, and there's nothing that can be done to get the Euro into the system. As far as the function key is concerned, you may need to do a bios flash or update in order to restore the function key features. Do the flash/update and get back to me.

SOURCE: I want to know how to use the function button

The function button, or FN button, is used just like the shift key or ctrl key. Hold the FN button down and press the key with the pre programmed function you desire to use. For instance, on an HP 1245 the function or short cut key to put the computer in sleep mode is FN+F5. The Keys with functions have that feature indicated by a symbol for the function in a squared circle. Most of these are your F keys at the very top row of the keyboard. Some are on the number pad keys.

Wifi not working

Make sure that driver is installed properly. If it is, check for wifi switch. Make sure it is turned on. In some laptops do not have switches, they use the functions keys to turn them on. Use Fn+F2 or Fn+F3. Also, make sure that you just have one wireless utility activated in the computer. It is more advised that you use the Windows Wireless utility which is more compatible with most types of routers.
Lastly, check your wireless card and the wireless router if they are wireless a,b,g or n. If the router is wireless n, your card should also be wireless n. If your card is just b or g, it would not work.

Problem in opening the wireless connection and the Cd installation cannot open also

Sounds like you have removed the hotkey functions.

You will need to go on here,

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

Find your model in the A3000 series and download both of the "Utilities" in the "Other" section and install them. Should be ok after this is done.
