Our dryer sounds like metal on metal when you turn it on and the drum is spinning. Can you help me find the problem?

this sounds like one of the wheels is broken/ worn out. This is a problem that will require taking the dryer apart are you prepared to do that?

Whirlpool Dryer Question - Drum sometimes doesn't spin

It sounds like there may be an issue with the motor or the motor switch. The thump sound you heard could be the motor attempting to start but not being able to, which can also explain why the drum won't spin. It could be a problem with the wiring, capacitor, or the motor itself. You may want to check the wiring to ensure there are no loose or damaged connections. If the wiring appears to be in good condition, it may be best to call a professional technician to inspect and repair the dryer.

I have a thumping sound in my dryer we put in new belt and wheels what can it be?

what's the brand name and model number?when it spins if you hear a thump thump as it spins that could just be the drum where the rollers hit it,i've heard that alot of times in dryers,i wouldn't worry about it,if it heats and spins and it doesn't sound like metal on metal or not making a real loud noise it's most likely just the drum, could be a little out of round and when the rollers ride on it you hear thump thump then when it spins you hear it again it will be fine, look at the drum, you might see some black stuff on it where the rollers ride on it,you can try cleaning it up it might help but i wouldn't worry about it.

ED 56 Dryer Scrapping sound like metal on metal when the drum spins

Most dryers are supported by a bearing at the rear and teflon pads at the front. Sounds like one of the pads is worn out leaving the drum to ride on the metal frame. The bearing can also make that sound if it breaking down. Most dryers have enough play that you can lift the drum and turn it. If the noise stops then the pads are bad. You can usually find them at most dryer wholesale or online appliance part stores.

Dryer sounds like metal rubbing, drum in a bind. The drum is turning, but making a sound, like metal to metal, especially when it starts up.

You have a bad drum bearing. When it heats up the sound goes away slightly. When the drum bearing goes bad it tilts the drum in the front and it is rubbing on the metal front. Check the seal in the front. You could use lub spray but that is only preventing the inedible-replacement. Good luck.

Dryer is making a metal on metal noise and drum hard to spin. looks like drum has shifted

Hello, from the sound of things it has defenately shifted. It could be one of a couple of problems, thefirst thing is the belt. Is it loose or slipped over on the drive dide of the pulley? The other problem could be a bearing or shaft has given way. Make sure that the power is turned off when checking these things. I hope this helps.

Dryer makes a very loud noise when turning - sounds like something is grinding. Happens on both directions of the spin. Could this be faulty or worn bearings? It is a condenser dryer, 4 yrs old

The drum support roller for your dryer (s) is worn out. In Rozzi's case is sounds like the rubber has come completely off and the drum is turning on the bare metal part of the wheel. In guest's case is sounds like one of the rollers has a chunk missing from the rubber that normally surrounds the metal wheel.

Unplug the dryer. Pull the top off the dryer. Typically a couple of screws in the back and then slide the whole top towards the front of the dryer. Lifting from the front edge open it up like a chest. Remove the drum and the belt. You should see two drum support rollers. Replace them both (and the belt while you are in there).
