3 loud pops and picture faded away

I purchased A 50 inch Zenith plazma tv about 28 months ago.

I was away from home 4 days to attend a funeral.

when I returned home, I turned the set on.

After watching it approx 10 minutes I heard 3 loud pops.

then the pictured slowly lost all color and 90 percent of the picture.

I had that same problem. I have had my 50" for about 2 years now. Today, I had the tv on for about 20 minutes while at home for lunch. I went into the kitchen and heard 3 loud pops and came out to find that the picture was dark and getting darker. I turned off the tv and went back to work. I came home 3 hours later and the tv wouldn't even turn on.

Samsung plazma tv will not turn on, makes loud popping noise when it tries. It started this several days ago but when it did go on the picture was fine. Can this be fixed at home?

Do you have electronic test gear and the knowledge required to diagnose these types of products?? Can it be fixed is a very broad question. If the answer is no sure or no then have it repaired (expensive) or replace the TV.

My zenith plasma tv popped real loudlike a car backfiring and then the tv picture went black. power on green light wil turn on but it automatically cuts itself back off to the red light

There's an over current fault in the power supply or the Y-sustain convergence board. The loud pop was either a capacitor or pico-fuse breaking from excessive current overload. Sounds like 2 or 3 mosfets have shorted at the gate ends. Plasma TV's always have this problem because they generate too much heat and the components cant take the load conditions. Make your next TV an LCD...

To fix this problem have your local repair shop do it for you.....

any questions please ask.....

Heard a loud pop and picture went bad, very bad.

Loud pop is usually (99%) a capacitor. More than likely on the power supply. Needs to be serviced.

Picture went out on p50hdm Vizio Plazma tv after loud POP

It's either the backlight lamp or backlight inverter is busted due to a power failure or fluctuation. Here's how to determine which is which:
  1. Grab a flashlight.
  2. Turn on the TV.
  3. Shine the flashlight onto the screen.
  4. If you cannot see any display even a faint one, the backlight inverter is dead, else the backlight lamps are busted.
  5. Replace which ever is the culprit.

TV made a loud pop sound now picture is real dim.

Don't know much about the newer tv's but in the old days when they did that the guns at the back of the tube where on the way out.. my guess is the modern equivalent is happening..you need to check the vision card.

Technician just replaced the upper right (from the back) circuit board that conects to the panel. TV now works fine. I bought the display model 8 months ago with extended Circuit City Warranty for $1000 so I can't complain. This was covered entirly by LG/Zenith (nicest Cust. Svc. ever) so we'll wait and see what happens.

Another Zenith TV Pops and bites the dust!

I can just imagine how you feel. Sorry. Our TV, same make and model, just did the same thing today 9/19. Luckily we purchased an extended warranty but however are waiting two weeks for them to show up and who knows what is wrong and how long it will take to fix it?

Green light blinking- no picture

This just happened to my Z50 yesterday...10 days after it came back from the repair shop! The first repair was for the "popping" problem where the tv makes a loud pop and the screen goes black. This took 6 weeks to get fixed. For this new problem the repair center is getting hold of LG to find out what to do. I am also calling them because I see this is a major problem that people have been experiencing out of warranty. The first customer service rep told me I was out of luck but I am not accepting that answer. Good luck, we'll both need it.
