Usually when I turn on this TV, I get a severely distorted image. I get a black shadow that is approximately horizontally centered and reaches the vertical extremes. The shadow is wavy and distorts the color and brightness of what I can see. This lasts anywhere from 10-30 minutes, and then rights itself.

There are some semiconductors or capacitors that are leaky. Might need thorough check up inside the TV.

This is either 1 of 2 things, first it could be faulty panel tabs , in this case, there is nothing you can do and is unrepairable....2) you could take the back off the tv and you will see 2 ribbons going from your t-con board to the panel tabs (top center of tv) remove them carefully and reseat them. This is a common problem. Tv repair tech 15 years! Best of luck.

hi. this will be an easy fix for you if you are a good solder. you will need to replace the convergence chip that is located on the PC board(main). this chip is damaged and it has failed due to this damage that has occurred. click below for your new convergence chip(stk).

This unit is getting distortion form the video circuits, most likely capacitors or resistors causing distortion to the input or output circuits. This problem could be caused by a bad video amplifier also ,which is distorting the signal. This problem needs to be checked with an oscilloscope to follow the signal path and find the source of the distortion. Usually this is best handled by a service center. If the unit is still under warranty call this number for Insignia customer help : 1-877-467-4289. If the unit is not under warranty, you should take it to a service center and have an estimate of the problems and repair costs. You can find parts for this television at the Best Buy parts website. Just google it and put in the number of your television and it will list all available parts and prices. You can also call this number for Best Buy parts : 1-888-237-8289. According to many respected sources with far more expertise than myself, the symptoms you are describing also fall within the realm of Canon CCD failure. In Canon's Service Notice: CCD Image Sensor Advisory, they outline the most common symptoms (distorted images, LCD showing only a black screen, etc.). They have conveniently limited the description to the bare minimum. More symptoms of the failing CCD include: pictures appearing on LCD show up with severe color variations (pink-purplish or green tint), colored "streaks" or "lines" throughout pictures, and wavy distortions in image. Most of these symptoms include the color variations, but not always. The lines or waves can appear in any direction and with varying degrees of severity. Some LCDs do not go black, but turn totally purple. Here is a link to a very informative article that should clear up any questions you might have.

If nothing else, call the Canon Customer Support Center at 1-800-828-4040. They will ask questions to identify whether or not you are having the same symptoms as described in the Product Advisory. I have been through this twice, and both times they were very nice and very helpful. Even if you don't qualify for the free repair, it didn't cost a thing to find out.

I've posted this solution several times but here goes. Try setting up the convergence through the menu by accessing the convergence setup menu. If this fails to work you have a bad digital convergence box and need a tech to replace it. About $60 to $100 fix.
