Toshiba 27A41 27" TV Remote is lost. Need to change the input. Can I do this using the buttons on the TV? Can I program my DirectTV remote to change the input?

which input are you using (HDMI, Composite, Coax?) are you trying to program it so you can use the DirectTV remote for channels, sound, power?

Push the input button on the remote control if you can not find it on the remote Control there should be a input button on the front of the TV .
Using the TV remote control or the DirectTv remote if programed for the TV.

Unfortunately, you do need a remote with a TV/Video Input/Source button. http://www.remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=gmi&uuid=12931505715290&smodel=32AF45&brand_pn=TOSHIBA_32AF45 has a substitute with all of the features including the TV/Video button. Any remote programmed 6 months after the TV was released will probably have a code that works with the TV. However, the lowest end ones often do not have an Input or Source button. With a remote with that button, it may take a while to find a code that matches all of the features (keep trying).

Any of the universal remotes that can be programmed via a USB connection to a computer will work with much less effort.

I came across this looking for a similar solution for my Samsung TV, and I found the solution on ehow.com. Apparently after you program the remote for your TV you have to hold mute and select again until it flashes twice then put in 960 to make the remote control TV input too. Note you're remote should be in TV mode while you do this. It seems silly that the DirectTV guy wouldn't do this when programming the remote.

The DRD486RH is both IR and RF capable but the remote that you have is obsolete.

Not familiar with this model but if you'll manage to locate a button marked as "TV/AV" or "AV" press this button until it the display switch to A/V mode (audio/video). Or if this is a really old model, from Tuner mode or channel model. set the channel station to 1 then press the " - channel " button and see if it will change from tuner mode to A/V mode

You need the original remote controller to be able to switch input modes.Universal ones usually don't work. If you don't have the original remote and can't find it ever or if it is too expensive you can buy an rf modulator ( very cheap) and connect your dvd player, game console etc) to the modulator then connect the modulator to your antenna with a coax cable. This worked for me. It placed the connection to channel 4 and other cable channels are still working,
