I have a benq ds550, recently when switching on the projector, the fan spins up, the light switches on, and briefly for half a second you can the benq symbol on a blue background, then the projector switches off the lamp, the fans keep on spinning and then after 50 seconds it powers down completely.
Then the status LEDS: the lamp led blinks green for 10 seconds and then switches off for 10 seconds, the power led stays orange.
I've replaced the lamp and still the same problem. The fan works, and no dust inside the unit.

The projector starts up as normal, lamp brightens up, vendor's logo and "Warming up, please wait" being displayed as normal. All of a sudden, lamp indicator LED begins to flash and the unit shuts off completely, leaving the standby LED flashing slowly.

Look at the manual page 34, for the indicator messages. I suspect it's the same problem I have (which I haven't had formally diagnosed yet!), which I believe is a defective fan. My projector had been making a really loud noise on startup, which varied in length and volume. Recently the projector has taken to turning itself off after being on for about a minute, and the power light flashes green, with the temp and lamp lights flashing red.
you have a bad power supply. it cannot raise enough power to start up everything, so it shuts down. probably dried capacitors. to get a new one, try www.projectordoctor.com
Does the distortion only happen when you plug it into the Pc or is it on video as well.
This is most of the time a cable problem. First try using a differnet cable before investing any any spares , I'm sure this will resolve the problem at hand.
If not , please send me a request and I'll guide you further.
After 2 years I finnaly solved the problem. There was a flaw in the lamp´s temperature circuit. A technician disassambled my BENQ PB8253 unit and fixed the problem. Charged me US$ 75.00. I´m in Brazil.
