Tower broken Hi, I have a message on my monitor that reads 'Alert! Chipset heat sink not detected. System Halted! I called Dell they said it could be a loose or broken chip set which may require replacing the mother board. I'm not sure if it is worth fixing and if I should instead purchase another tower that would be compatible with my monitor and keyboard. Your thoughts?

This is a stupid error. Check the motherboard inside and see if anything has gotten unplugged. There is no way for a chipset to break or come off without you doing it. Is this a DOS start up screen or a windows screen? The tech that you talked to is an idiot. If this is a windows error, it is some software installed that is giving this error. May be a motherboard monitor. If you have a motherboard monitor and everything is running cool then it is nothing. This can be checked in the BIOS; hit DEL or and F key when it starts to check your temps.
You can buy any computer and it will work with any keyboard or mouse, monitor,speaker, or anything else that will connect as long as it is not software related with the operating system. The operating system will have to support the drivers for a printer, scanner or something like that.
