Sounds like the manufacturer did an upgrade. You can look up the remote control codes for that TV. Turn the TV power on. Then using the codes you found set each one into the remote you have and check the functioning by trying to turn the TV off. If you are unable to see instructions for setting the codes into your new remote, or if they weren't supplied by the seller, you'll have to find it's manual online and follow those instructions. It could be that Toshiba used the same control model for more than one TV set model. Often just putting in batteries will work but when it doesn't you have to treat the remote as a universal remote. If you can't use the primary unit setting to work you can try to set it up as an"AUX" unit as you would do for a second TV.
