Recover data from a dead hard drive is not possible by us mortals.
There are companies that can recover data from faulty hard drives, but it will cost you and arm and a leg for their services.
If you wish to recover your data do a Google search for such companies on the Internet.

An old seagate medalist 4321 is connected to my external caddy. BUT cannot access it. cannot see its icon anywhere, though system claims it is working OK. My XP Home is updated, computer working...

If the drive can be seen by device manager but not under MyComputer, right click my computer and go to "Manage". (Check out: rightclicking my computer icon on your desktop, select disk manager)
You should see your hard drive either lister as foreign or not initialized. Ifforeign, it will give you an option to import and is not initialized, it willallow you to initialize it.
This will hand over drive management to the OS and you should be able to see itin My Computer.
Have you ever worried about hard drivedata recovery? Here is the solution: You can recover harddrive data withdata recovery software like Tenorshare DataRecovery. It can recover data after deeply scanning your hard drive to look forlost data. You can get it from: http://www.any-data-recovery.com/index.htm

Wires to connect to latop (medalist 3210 model ST33210A)

That's a desktop hard drive. To use it with a laptop you would need to buy an external hard drive enclosure like this , or an adapter like these . Make sure that it says that it's suitable for ATA, not just SATA, PATA, or IDE.

Seagate 160 GB hard drive, Compaq PC quit recognizing the drive. Had it analyzed, and it's the drive, not the computer. How much would it cost to recover the data? (mostly pictures)

Any computer shop can give you an estimate, but it can be fairly expensive, just depends what has to be done to access the disk platters, so make sure you get an estimate first in writing. Good luck!

Hi, i have a old st344310a seagate hd i want to install. it plugs into the mother board and power supply, but won't show up on "my computer"

Right-click My Computer, choose Manage, or otherwise go to Management Tools.
In the left window drill down to Disk Management and select it.
On the right pane find your 4GB disk.
Right-click it, choose Assign drive letter, and choose an unused drive letter from list.
Confirm, and your drive should appear in My Computer under the newly assigned letter.
