My wash is less than 2 yrs. Stinks like mildew. Nothing seems to rid the machine of the smell.

Make sure you are using an HE branded detergent and cut back on the use of fabric softener to start. If you have a wm2077.2177 or 2277 LG has a board that has a tub clean program in it that can help. You can get the same result though by running a HOT bleach wash or use affresh, www.affresh.com It won't do it all in one go but over time it will make a difference. Leave your door open after the wash and wipe down the gasket as well.
You can help the process by changing the gasket, bellows and drain hose or you can try removing them and cleaning them out.
Another detergent on the market that works well is Persil, costs a bit more but you only use about 1/8 of a cup and it will last 3-4 months so is pretty cheap in the long run.

Note it is not the machine that has caused the problem but what has gone in it so try not to use so much and don't mix brands.
It will take a bit of time but you can turn it around.

Mildew odor in the machine....can't get rid of it and makes clothes STINK!

If you have a smelly front loading clothes washing machine, toss in a Finish Geltabs (the ones that are all liquid) and run the machine on a hot wash cycle, medium to heavy load (to get more water in the tub) with no clothes in the machine. You don't need to use much of a spin cycle so set it on low. The washing machine will come clean and even the moldy spots on the rubber gaskets will disappear. A second treatment may be needed if the smell is not completely gone. We tried everything from vineger to bleach to baking soda to borax to commercially available odor removers from Whirlpool and Tide. Nothing worked until I hit on this idea. It's cheap, easy and can be done anytime your machine needs a refreshing. I used the orange Geltabs but any fragrance would be fine. Keep the door on your washer open a bit when possible to air out to help preclude those nasty smells.

LG WM1812CW washer smell

First, clean out the filter behind the access door on the lower left front of the machine. Residue left in the filter can contribute to odor issues. Second, buy a package of AhFresh or Whilaway and run a cycle with that, hot water, longest cycle. (unfortunately you do not have the sanitary cycle or the tub clean cycle on your model) Third, and most importantly, USE LESS DETERGENT. Top load washers use up to 45 gallons of water per cycle. Your machine uses 12. Use one tablespoon of HE detergent and one teaspoon of fabric softener (if you use softener) per cycle. My personal LG washer is now over 5 years old, and have only had an odor issue one time. I leave the door closed after I wash. (the tub is vented) Never have had any mold or mildew issues with my washer. Was doing several loads per day when I had 7 at home, now only doing 3 loads a week with all the kids, their spouses, and grandkid gone. Still no odor problems. Great machines if used properly. Note: the odor / mold / mildew issues are basically the same with any front load machine, regardless of brand, and most can be solved following the above advise. Good luck.

Mildew smell

Try doing just a hot bleach water "load".  Also check underneath and around the machine to make sure it's not leaking.  If it did or is and you can see the mildew just spray it with bleach.

Washer door ring has mildew on it and is causing my clothes to smell moldy. What can be done to get rid of this? I've used bleach, and cleaners directly on the rubber ring, but with out success.

Unfortunately, when mold and mildew impregnate the rubber door boots on these models, it's nearly impossible to get it to go away. I would recommend replacing the door boot and follow these diligent preventive measures to keep the problem from coming back: 1. Check the area in and around the door boot after each wash for lost articles of clothing like underwear and socks. Also, clean out any lint or debris that collects under the boot. You might want to think about using a mesh garment bag for small items in the future. 2. Wipe the area periodically with a towel to get rid of the accumulation of soap deposits and dirt. This means wiping BEHIND the door boot where it meets the wash tub as well. I recommend waiting until you get ready to do a load of towels. Clean the area with a towel, then throw it directly in the wash. 3. Leave the door OPEN between washes to allow the door boot to air dry. Due to the nature of these door seals, they seal air tight and create an environment for mildew and mold to grow. 4. Run the washer with no load on the hottest cycle you have with nothing but bleach about once a week to keep bacteria to a minimum, and to flush the drain lines and pump. The door boot costs about $80 to replace, but it may be your only solution to getting rid of the smell and bacteria. Let me know if you decide to replace it. I can give you some pointers.
