We have a P50HDM Vizio Plasma that made a loud pop and then the screen went black. When I called Vizio, I was told that my set is no longer under warranty. We have had it for about 24 months. Was your set under warranty when the boards were replaced by Vizio?
Mine did this once, but seems to be okay after powering off and doing hard reset. I can't remember the protocol exactly, but I believe you unplug and hold power button for about a minute ... plug back in, and power up.Mine did this once, but seems to be okay after powering off and doing hard reset. My P50HDM is 18 months old. I had the "Pop of Death" a few days ago and I am out of warranty. The prevailing wisdom has us replacing the X Sustainer (part# 6871QZH044B) and/or the Y-Sustainer boards (part#6871QYH039B). Prior to this failure the screen developed red sparkles in the dark portion of the picture. I am hoping fixing the Pop of Death problems does something for the sparkles but I doubt it. Was watching TV when suddenly I heard what sounded like someone loudly clapped their hands once, and the TV went black. Bought my P50HDM early 2006. Removed back off TV to see if there was anything obvious like a blown cap, fuse, or other burnt component, but saw none. Everything "looked" fine, but no screen when I turn on TV. The power lights luminate, but no picture. Was watching TV when suddenly I heard what sounded like someone loudly clapped their hands once, and the TV went black. Bought my P50HDM early 2006. when we changed over to a digital cable box our tv started acting up. when i turn it on it would pop then a buzzing then a flash of a picture , it would repeat this then just black screen. when we changed over to a digital cable box our tv started acting up. when i turn it on it would pop then a buzzing then a flash of a picture , it would repeat this then just black screen.

That problem is the Ysus board, Sometimes people will replace the Zboard at the same time. If you bought it at costco a couple of years ago you are in luck costco will refund your purchase price, costco has changed the return policy and newer tv's are not refunded, but something to look into

Check and replace damaged component/s at it main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Viewing it in "Mosaic" or "Magazine" will make surf easy. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. Do asearch by type in the brand name of your device at its search box. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis.
when you here a loud pop its usually the sustainer boards. Have you checked the fuses on the sustainer boards first to see if they are still good. There is a IC chip under the heatsink and when it gets extremely hot it gives. Also check you power supply board to make sure you don't see any swollen capacitors, leaky or bulged out from the top. Let me know if that helps at all.
this is most likely the sustainer board(s) problem. Replacing the sustainer boards should correct this problem for you. you can get the parts at vancebaldwin.com
replace the sustainer boards should correct this problem. New sustainer boards may cause red and green pixilation. If this happen, replace control board and TV is as good as new.
This is called the pop of death! If you call vizio they will ask you if you heard a pop, this is a common issue and unless your under warrenty your looking at 916$ to fix it. (assuming you have no sound! If you do its 430$ plus tax for parts and repair. You can buy a used one on ebay for that price!
I have the parts numbers if you want them!
Call vizio if you have had this system for under a yr the will fix it free!
As for me my 50 and 42 inch had this issue and well I am out of warrenty.. I hate vizio lol!
Hey guess what?! After Costco shafted me good, told me to get lost, and slammed the concierge phone down, I called Vizio. THIS TV HAS A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON IT NOW!! They will fix/replace it at their expense! After a 5 minute call to their customer service they arranged the repair order. Vizio knows that this set is a lemon and they are actually owning up to it. The gentleman told me that this set now carries a Lifetime warranty on parts (to exclude a shattered screen of course) and labor! The repairman is going to come this way in the next week or so and I'll update you on what he says. So to all out there with problems on this set: CALL VIZIO AND GET READY FOR A BREATH OF FRESH AIR!
This may have been the sound of electrolytic capacitors exploding. I would not suggest plugging the set back in until you can have it checked by a qualified TV technician. If you are skilled in Electronics and would like to work on this yourself, you will need:
The schematic diagram, a multimeter, a signal generator, an oscilloscope, and an isolation transformer.
