The MASD-1 accepts microSD and microSDHC media, giving owners the option to record to those cards or to xD-Picture Card media, which is Olympus’ preferred format.
To use microSD/SDHC media in the camera, simply insert the card into the adapter and then insert the adapter into the camera's memory card slot.
First things first - need to make sure that the card is making proper electrical contact with the camera. Have a look at the contacts at the edge of the card and make sure they are spotlessly clean - even a fingerprint may cause problems.
Also, make sure the contacts in the camera have nothing causing a contact problem, and see if this resolves the issue.
Olympus cameras use xD memory cards. If this one uses memory cards (and I'm SURE it does) then it is simpler to just remove the card when you are ready to transfer pictures, and insert the card into a card reader. You may already have one, if not, you can get one for about $15.00. I have an Olympus and have all the cables and software but never use it. Olympus software isn't the best and the cables just get in the way. Cards and a reader are the way to go. Remember, you must use xD cards in Olympus and Fuji cameras. Avoid Kodak brand cards, they don't work in my Olympus.Olympus should have more info on thier website.
hi i have the same problem at the moment
i was wondering if anyone has found a solution yet to fix it without losing the photos. your help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
If I remember my last Olympus camera it would only work in Panorama mode with an official Olympus memory card. No third party cards would enable that feature. My instructions read "An Olympus xD-Picture Card is
required for panorama shooting." If you are using an official Olympus xD-Picture card, there may be a problem with your camera.
Try formating the card in the Camera twice.
or
Download PCinspector from www.convar.com
Install this program and run the recovery program with the card in the media slot.
Then back to camera and format,
Come back
The internal memory and the xD-Picture Card cannot be used at the same time. When the card is inserted the internal memory is disabled. When you want to use the internal memory, remove the xD Picture Card. The LCD display will indicate that images are saved to internal memory by displaying [IN] in the lower right corner of the screen. When using the xD-Picture Card the camera’s LCD will display [xD] in the lower right corner of the screen. These indicators are displayed just above the number of available frames.

Yes, third-party brand xD Picture Cards can be used to record images. Please note that an Olympus brand xD card is necessary to use the Panorama function on the camera.
